Weather Around the World: Sunny, Rainy, or Snowy?

Sunny Days and Hot Weather

When the sun is shining, we call it a sunny day. The temperature can be hot or warm during summer. In countries near the equator, like Brazil, it is usually hotter than countries in the north. People wear light clothes and drink lots of water when the weather is very hot. Some places are humid, which means the air feels wet and sticky.

Rain and Storms

In many countries, it rains a lot, especially in spring and autumn. A light rain is called drizzle, but heavy rain can cause floods. When there is a lot of cloud in the sky, we say it is cloudy. Sometimes storms bring strong wind and lightning. The United Kingdom is famous for its rainy weather!

Snow and Cold Weather

In winter, some countries become very cold and it snows. When water freezes, it turns into snow. The temperature can drop below freezing, which means zero degrees or colder. In Canada and Russia, winters are much colder than in Mediterranean countries. People wear coats, scarves, and gloves when there is snow on the ground.

The Four Seasons

Most countries have four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. In spring, the weather becomes milder and flowers start to grow. Summer is the warmest season with the longest days. Autumn brings cooler weather and falling leaves. Winter is the coldest season. Some countries, like Australia, have opposite seasons because they are in the Southern Hemisphere.
