القصة

The Midnight Library Book Club

Lena had worked at Pages & Petals for three years, dusting shelves and helping customers find the perfect book. She loved the quiet hum of the shop, the smell of old paper, and the way stories could transport her anywhere. But Lena was shy—so shy that she rarely spoke to anyone except Mrs. Holloway, the shop’s owner, and the occasional regular.

One rainy Tuesday, as Lena locked up, she noticed something strange. A small, silver key sat on the counter, though she was certain she hadn’t left it there. Curious, she picked it up and turned it over in her palm. Engraved on the back were the words: Midnight. Third door on the left.

That night, Lena couldn’t sleep. The key weighed heavy in her pocket. At five minutes to midnight, she crept back to the shop, her heart pounding. The third door on the left was tucked behind a shelf of poetry books—she’d never noticed it before. The key turned with a soft click, and the door swung open to reveal a cosy room lit by flickering candles. A group of people sat in a circle, books open in their laps.

“You’re late,” said a man with round glasses and a warm smile. “But we’re glad you’re here.”

Lena hesitated. “I—I don’t understand. What is this place?”

“The Midnight Library Book Club,” said a woman with wild curly hair. “We discuss stories that haven’t been written yet.”

Lena’s eyes widened. “That’s impossible!”

The man chuckled. “Not here. Sit down, and we’ll show you.”

For the next hour, Lena listened as the members shared tales of adventures, mysteries, and love stories that didn’t exist—yet. They spoke with such passion that Lena could almost see the characters coming to life. When it was her turn, she nervously described a story about a girl who could hear the secrets hidden in books. The group listened intently, nodding and smiling.

As the clock struck one, the man with glasses handed Lena a small notebook. “Write it down,” he said. “The world needs more stories.”

The next morning, Lena woke up with the notebook on her pillow. She opened it to find the first page filled with her own handwriting—the story she’d shared the night before. Over the following weeks, she returned to the Midnight Library Book Club, each time leaving with a new idea scribbled in her notebook. Soon, she began sharing her stories with the customers at Pages & Petals, her voice growing stronger with each tale.

And though the silver key vanished one night, never to be seen again, Lena knew the magic of the Midnight Library Book Club would stay with her forever—one story at a time.
