When you look at a family photo, you can use simple phrases to talk about the people in it. We use This is my... to show someone in the photo. We also use He is my... for boys and men, and She is my... for girls and women.

Here are useful phrases for talking about a family photo:

English When to use it
This is my family. to talk about everyone together
This is my mother. / This is my father. to show a parent
This is my sister. / This is my brother. to show a sibling
She is my grandmother. to show an older woman
He is my grandfather. to show an older man
This is me. to show yourself

You can also ask simple questions. Ask Who is this? when you do not know a person in the photo. Ask Is she your sister? to check. Ask What is his name? to learn more about someone.

Now listen to a short conversation about a family photo. Then you will practice saying the phrases yourself.

في القسم ده هنتعلم إزاي نتكلم عن صورة العيلة بالإنجليزي. الفكرة بسيطة: بنستخدم جمل قصيرة نعرّف بيها الناس اللي في الصورة.

القاعدة الأساسية للكلام:

  • This is my... → دي الجملة اللي بنستخدمها لما نودّي حد على شخص في الصورة. مثلاً: This is my mother (دي أمي) أو This is my father (ده أبويا).
  • He is my... → بنستخدمها لما الشخص راجل أو ولد. مثلاً: He is my brother (ده أخويا) أو He is my grandfather (ده جدي).
  • She is my... → بنستخدمها لما الشخص ست أو بنت. مثلاً: She is my sister (دي أختي) أو She is my grandmother (دي جدتي).

الضميرات المهمة:

  • He = ده (للرجالة والأولاد)
  • She = دي (للبنات والستات)
  • His = بتاعه (للراجل): His name is Sam (اسمه سام)
  • Her = بتاعها (للست): Her name is Emma (اسمها إيما)

إزاي تسأل عن حد في الصورة:

  • Who is she? = مين دي؟ (لما تشوف ست ومش عارفها)
  • Who is he? = مين ده؟ (لما تشوف راجل ومش عارفه)
  • Is he your brother? = هو أخوك؟ (عشان تتأكد)
  • What is his name? = اسمه إيه؟

خلّينا نشوف المحادثة بتاعت Emma و Tom: لما Emma قالت Look, Tom. This is my family photo، كانت بتعرض الصورة. Tom رد Oh nice! Who is she? عشان يسأل عن الست. Emma جاوبت She is my mother (هنا استخدمة She عشان الأم ست). ولما قالت And the man is my father، استخدمت the man مش he لأنها كانت بتعرّف مش بتوصف. ولما Tom سأل Is he your brother?، السؤال ده بـ Is he للتأكد. Emma جاوبت Yes! His name is Sam، لاحظ His قبل name.

نصيحة مهمة: في الإنجليزي الأمريكي، لما الصورة تعجبك بتقول Oh nice! أو What a nice family! — ده أسلوب طبيعي ومهذب.

دلوقتي دورك! جرّب تقول الجمل بصوتك وخد محادثة مع الـ AI.

In every family, there are people we love. We call these people our family. A family has a mother and a father. The mother is a woman, and the father is a man. They take care of the children in the home.

Many families also have brothers and sisters. A girl with the same mother and father as you is your sister. A boy with the same mother and father as you is your brother. A very young child in the family is a baby. Babies need a lot of care.

Older family members are very important too. Your mother's mother or your father's mother is your grandmother. Your mother's father or your father's father is your grandfather. Grandparents are older, and they love to spend time with the children.

Look at the words in the table below. Soon, you can name the people in your own family.

father noun My father is tall.

إزاي نقول "أمي" و"أبويا" في الإنجليزي

الجملة المهمة في الدرس ده هي: "This is my family." (دي عائلتي). بنستخدمها لما نُوري حد صورة على الموبايل أو نعرّفه على الناس بتوعنا.

ملاحظة على كلمة baby

كلمة baby ممكن تبقى noun (اسم) زي ما شفنا في الأمثلة، وممكن كمان تبقى adjective (صفة) لوصف حاجة صغيرة. مثال: The baby is small. (الطفل صغير).

نصيحة للحفظ

لما تحفظ أي كلمة جديدة، حاول تعملها جملة كاملة في دماغك. مثلاً: "This is my sister. She is nice." كده إنت بتحفظ الكلمة مع سياقها، وده بيساعدك تتكلم بطلاقة أسرع.
