When you go to a clothes shop, you need some useful phrases. These phrases help you ask for help, find your size, try on clothes, and pay.

Look at the table below. It shows the most important phrases:

The shop assistant is the person who works in the shop. The changing room (also called fitting room) is a small room where you try on clothes.

ثانياً، لما يسألك 'What size do you need?'، الإجابة المختصرة والمهذبة هي 'Medium, please.' لاحظ إننا بنحط please عشان الأدب.

ثالثاً، لو عايز اللون الأسود مثلاً، بتقول 'Do you have this in black?'. كلمة in هنا مهمة جداً وبتعني 'باللون ده' أو 'بالمقاس ده'.

رابعاً، عشان تجرب الهدوم، بتقول 'Can I try this on, please?'. فعل try on معناه 'يجرب الهدوم'.

خامساً، عشان تعرف السعر، بتقول 'How much is it?'. بنستخدم is لأن بنتكلم عن حاجة واحدة (it).

وأخيراً، لما تحب تشتري، بتقول 'I'll take it.'. الـ I'll دي اختصار لـ I will وبتعني إنك قررت تشتري الحاجة دي.

نصيحة مهمة: في المحلات، الكلام بيكون قصير ومباشر. مش محتاج جمل طويلة، بس لازم تكون مهذب وواضح. كلمة please و thanks بتفرق جداً!

اللي هتسمعه في الجزء ده

تخيل معايا إن سارة رايحة محل هدوم عايزة تشتري كنزة. أول ما دخلت، ماريا البائعة ابتسمت وقالت لها "Hi! Can I help you?" ومعناها "أقدر أساعدك؟". ده أسلوب رسمي ومهذب بنستخدمه لما ندخل أي محل في أمريكا. سارة ردّت بأدب وقالت "Yes, please. I'm looking for a sweater." يعني "أيوة لو سمحت، أنا بدور على كنزة". لاحظ إن سارة استخدمت جملة I'm looking for ومعناها "أنا بدور على". ده بيبين إنها لسه بتدور وما اشترتش حاجة لسه.

الكلمات الجديدة في المحادثة

هتلاقي في الكلام كلمات مهمة جداً هتحتاجها لما تروح أي محل هدوم:

  • sweater يعني الكنزة
  • color يعني اللون
  • size يعني المقاس
  • changing room يعني الأوفريت أو غرفة القياس
  • credit card يعني كارت الفيزا أو الكريديت كارد

طريقة السؤال في المحل

لما تسأل البائع عن حاجة موجودة عنده، بنستخدم سؤال "Do you have...?" زي ما سارة قالت "Do you have this one in a small?" يعني "عندك ده بمقاس صغير؟". ولما تسأل عن السعر بتقول "How much is it?" يعني "بكام ده؟" والرد بيكون "It's thirty dollars" يعني "بثلاثين دولار".

قرار الشراء

لما تلاقي الحاجة اللي عايزها وحبيت شكلها بعد ما جربتها، تقدر تقول "I'll take it" يعني "هاخدها" أو "هشتريها". الـ will هنا بتستخدم للتعبير عن قرار اتاخد في نفس اللحظة. وآخر حاجة في المحادثة، سارة سألت "Do you take credit cards?" يعني "بتقبلوا كروت الفيزا؟" عشان تعرف تقدر تدفع إزاي.

نصيحة للاستماع

اسمع المحادثة مرتين. أول مرة ركّز على الفكرة العامة - مين بيتكلم وفين وإيه اللي بيحصل. تاني مرة ركّز على التفاصيل: إيه اللون؟ إيه المقاس؟ السعر كام؟ استمتع بالاستماع!

The sound /θ/ is the 'th' sound in English (US). You can hear it in common words like think and thank. This sound is very important when you shop for clothes.

To make /θ/, put the tip of your tongue between your teeth. The flat part of your tongue touches the top of your bottom teeth. Push air out gently. Do not use your voice — it is a soft, quiet sound. Your teeth and tongue are very close together.

Look at the table. It shows common shopping words with /θ/:

Practice the sound slowly first. Feel the air on your tongue. Then say the words faster. Listen carefully to the difference between /θ/ and /t/. The /θ/ sound needs your tongue between your teeth.

صوت الـ /θ/ في الإنجليزي — إزاي تعمله صح؟

صوت الـ /θ/ — اللي بيكتبوه "th" — ده صوت مش موجودش في العربي، فكتير من الناطقين بالعربي بيبدّلوه بصوت /t/ أو /s/. عشان كده لما بتتكلم عن الهدوم في المحل، لازم تتدرّب عليه كويس.

إزاي بتعمل الصوت ده بفيك؟

  • حط طرف لسانك بين سنانك من قدام — يعني تطلّع اللسان شوية بره الأسنان.
  • الأسنان الفوقانية بتلمّ طرف اللسان من فوق بهدوء.
  • اندفخ هوا ناعم من بقك.
  • مهم جداً: متستخدمش صوتك خالص — الـ vocal cords ما تشتغلش. الصوت ده voiceless، يعني هوا بس من غير دوشة.

كلمات من الدرس فيها الصوت ده

  • think — زي جملة I think this shirt is nice (أنا شايف إن القميص ده حلو).
  • thank — زي Thank you very much (شكراً جداً).
  • three — زي Three shirts, please (تلات قمصان، لو سمحت).
  • thin — زي This sweater is thin (الكنزة دي خفيفة ورفيعة).
  • thirty — زي It costs thirty dollars (بتكلف تلاتين دولار).

فرق مهم: /θ/ vs /t/

كتير بيخلطوا بين الصوتين. الفرق بسيط بس مهم:

  • في think، طرف اللسان بيكون بين الأسنان، والهوا بيطلع ناعم من الشق اللي بينهم.
  • في tank، طرف اللسان بيرجع ورا وبيلمس سقف الحلق من جوه بسرعة.

نصايح للتمرين

  1. ابدأ بالبطيء — طلّع لسانك، اندفخ هوا بهدوء، وحط إيدك قدام بقك. لو حسّيت بنسمة هوا على إيدك، يبقى أنت بتعمل الصوت صح.
  2. لما تتعوّد، زوّد السرعة وادخلها في كلمات وجمل.
  3. اسمع الأمثلة في الدرس وقلّدها.
  4. خلّي بالك من كلمة think وthank — دول أكتر كلمتين هتستخدمهم في المحل.

لما بتتدرّب على الصوت ده، كلامك هيبقى أقرب للنطق الأمريكي، وفاهمينك أحسن في المحل.

Strategy: Skimming

When you skim a text, you read it very quickly. You do not read every word. You look for the general idea — the most important information. Read the title first. Then read the first sentence of each paragraph. This helps you understand the text quickly.

Key words to know:

إيه هي استراتيجية الـ Skimming؟

يا صديقي، النهاردة هنتعلم حاجة اسمها skimming، ودي من أهم الحاجات اللي هتساعدك لما تيجي تقرأ أي حاجة بالإنجليزي. الفكرة بسيطة: إنت مش لازم تقرأ كل كلمة في النص، لأ، إنت بس عايز تفهم الـ general idea يعني الفكرة العامة.

تخيل كده إنك داخل محل ملابس وعايز تعرف بسرعة هلاقي اللي بدور عليه ولا لأ. مش هتقف تقرأ كل تاج وكل ورقة، صح؟ نفس الكلام في القراءة.

إزاي تعمل skimming صح؟

عندك تلات خطوات سهلة:

  • أول حاجة: اقرأ الـ title (العنوان) بتاع النص، لأنه بيديك فكرة عامة عن إيه اللي هتتكلم فيه.
  • تاني حاجة: اقرأ أول جملة بس في كل paragraph (فقرة). الجملة الأولى دي زي المفتاح، هي اللي بتقولك أهم حاجة في الفقرة.
  • تالت حاجة: سيب باقي التفاصيل دلوقتي، وارجعلها بعدين لو محتاج تجاوب سؤال معين.

الكلمات اللي لازم تعرفها قبل ما تبدأ

في الـ blog post النهاردة، هتلاقي كام كلمة مهمة:

  • list = قائمة، زي ما بتكتب list فيها الحاجات اللي عايز تشتريها من السوبرماركت.
  • try on = تجرب، وبتتقال في الهدوم بالذات، زي ما تقول Can I try on this shirt? (ممكن أجرب القميص ده؟).
  • size = مقاس، زي small ولا medium ولا large.
  • price = السعر، زي What is the price of this bag? (سعر الشنطة دي كام؟).
  • expensive = غالي، والعكس بتاعها cheap يعني رخيص.

يا هلا بيك في درس النهاردة، اللي هنتعلم فيه إزاي تتكلم إنجليزي لما تدخل محل هدوم (clothes shop) عايز تشتري أو تجرب حاجة. الموقف ده من المواقف اليومية اللي هتحتاجها كتير، فخلينا نمشي مع بعض خطوة خطوة.

العبارات الأساسية اللي هتحتاجها

في الزبون (customer) والـبائع (shop assistant)، وكل واحد فيهم ليه عبارات بيقولها:

القواعد اللي ورا الكلام ده

1. جملة Can I...؟

دي بتستخدم لما تطلب إذن (permission) بصيغة مهذبة. بنحط I وبعدها فعل (verb) في المصدر. مثلاً:

  • Can I try this on? (أقدر أجرب ده؟)
  • Can I help you? (أقدر أساعدك؟)

2. جملة Do you have...؟

دي بنستخدمها لما نسأل عن وجود حاجة عند حد. بنقول:

  • Do you have this shirt in a medium? (عندك القميص ده مقاس medium؟)
  • Do you have this in a small? (عندك ده مقاس small؟)

3. أدب الكلام (Politeness)

دايماً خلي بالك تحط please لما تطلب حاجة، وthank you لما حد يساعدك. مثلاً:

  • Can I try this on, please?
  • Yes, here you are. Thank you!

Using commas in lists

When you write a list of three or more things, put a comma ( , ) between the items. Look at the example: I need T-shirts, socks, and jeans. The comma is between socks and and. This makes the list easy to read.

Now write your own short shopping list message. Use commas in your list. Read it aloud when you finish!

إزاي تكتب رسالة شوبينج ليست بسيطة بالإنجليزي

في الجزء ده هنتعلم إزاي نكتب رسالة قصيرة فيها قائمة ملابس نطلبها من حد في العيلة، زي ما Sam عمل مع مامته. الفكرة إنك تكتب رسالة ودودة مش مجرد كلام رسمي، وتستخدم فيها الفاصلة (comma) صح لما تذكر أكتر من حاجة.

شكل الرسالة

الرسالة بتبقى قصيرة وبسيطة، وبتكون من أربع حاجات أساسية:

  • تحية في الأول: زي Hi Mom أو Hello.

الكلمات اللي هتحتاجها

  • T-shirts: تيشيرتات، ودي كلمة بتتكتب بـ hyphen زي ما هي.
  • socks: شرابات، وجمع socks مش sock.
  • sweater: كنزة صوف، وبيتقال a warm sweater لو عايز توصفها إنها تقيلة.
  • jeans: بنطلونات جينز، ودي دايمًا جمع لأن مفيش حاجة اسمها jean لوحدها.
  • size: المقاس، وبتكتب الرقم بعده زي size M أو size 30.

قاعدة الفاصلة (comma) في القوائم

دي أهم حاجة في الدرس ده. لما تكتب تلت حاجات أو أكتر في جملة واحدة، لازم تحط فاصلة ( , ) بين كل حاجة والتانية. بص على المثال:

I need T-shirts, socks, and jeans.

لاحظ إن الفاصلة بتتحط بين socks و and، مش بعد and. الفاصلة دي بتخلي الجملة سهلة على اللي بيقرا.

لما تخلّص الرسالة، اقراها بصوت عالي. ده هيخليك تتأكد إن الجمل ماشية صح وإن الفواصل في أماكنها. جرّب تكتب رسالتك بنفسك دلوقتي!
