When you want to talk about films with friends, you need a few useful phrases. You need to ask questions, give your opinion, and recommend films you like. Here are some of the most common phrases for film conversations.

السؤال عن الأفلام

الجملة اللي لازم تحفظها هي "Have you seen ___?" - دي بتستخدم زمن الـ present perfect لأنك بتسأل عن تجربة في حياتك مش عن وقت معين. لما بتقول "Have you seen the new film?" يعني "هل شفته قبل كده في أي وقت؟". كمان عندك "What do you think of it?" لما صاحبك يكون شاف الفيلم وعايز تعرف رأيه بصراحة.

إزاي تقول رأيك في فيلم

الأراء عندها 3 مستويات في الإنجليزي:

I really liked it (عجبني جداً) - رأي إيجابي عادي ومهذب
It was amazing (كان رهيب) - رأي إيجابي قوي ومتحمس
It was a bit boring (كان ممل شوية) - رأي سلبي بأدب، كلمة a bit بتخليه أخف

لو عايز تمدح حاجة معينة جوا الفيلم، قول "The acting was great" يعني التمثيل كان حلو، أو "The story was interesting" يعني القصة كانت مشوقة.

التوصية بفلم

لو عايز توصي صاحبك بفلم، عندك 3 طرق:

I recommend it - توصية واضحة ومباشرة
It's worth watching - يعني الفيلم يستاهل تتفرج عليه، وده أقوى شوية
It's my favourite film - لو الفيلم ده من أحب حاجة عندك، ده بيخلي صاحبك متحمس أكتر

اقتراح خطة سوا

في الآخر، لما تكون متحمس وعايز تقترح تتفرجوا مع بعض، استخدم "I recommend we watch it tonight" - لاحظ إن بعد recommend بنحط noun أو "verb + ing" أو "that + sentence"، مش to + verb. وختم بـ "Let's go!" يعني يلا بينا!

نصيحة أخيرة

الحيلة إنك تاخد 2 أو 3 جمل من اللي فوق وتستخدمهم في كلام طبيعي، مش تحفظهم كقائمة. كل ما تستخدمهم في سياق حقيقي، كل ما هتبقى جزء من لغتك اللي بتطلع منك أوتوماتيك.

In this section, you will listen to a short conversation between two friends. Tom and Emma are at home, talking about a film they want to watch tonight. Listen carefully to find out which film they choose and why.

This kind of conversation is very common in real life. Friends often talk about films before they watch one together. They discuss what kind of film they want, share opinions, and recommend films they like.

Before you listen

Look at this question: What kind of film do you think Tom and Emma want to watch? Think about your answer. Then listen to the dialogue.

While you listen

First, listen for the gist — the main idea. What are Tom and Emma doing?
Then listen for specific information — the name of the film, what kind of film it is.
Finally, listen for details — what Emma says about the acting and her recommendation.

After you listen

You will answer three questions: one about the main idea, one about a specific detail, and one where you complete a sentence from the dialogue.

Remember: you don't need to understand every word. Focus on the key information. Listening to natural English is one of the best ways to improve your own speaking. Pay attention to intonation, stress, and connected speech.

في الـ listening ده هتسمع محادثة بين اتنين أصحاب، Tom و Emma. بيتكلموا عن فيلم عايزين يتفرجوا عليه مع بعض. الموضوع بسيط جداً وبيحصل كل يوم بين الناس، وهو إنك تنصح صاحبك بفيلم حلو.

أهم الكلمات والعبارات

recommend = تنصح أو توصي بحاجة. مثلاً: I really recommend it. معناها أنا بجد بنصحك بيه.
comedy = فيلم أو مسرحية كوميدية، يعني فيها ضحك.
acting = تمثيل، يعني أداء الممثلين في الفيلم.
be free = تكون فاضي، يعني معندكش شغل.
sound great = يبدو رائع، ودي جملة بنستخدمها كتير لما حد يقترح علينا حاجة حلوة.

تراكيب لغوية مهمة

What kind of film do you want to see? دي جملة بتسأل عن نوع الفيلم اللي حد عايز يتفرج عليه. ممكن تستخدمها مع أي حاجة تانية، زي: What kind of music do you like?
It's about two friends who... الجملة دي بتوصف الفيلم. It's about معناها الفيلم عن إيه. وبعدها بنحط وصف بسيط للقصة.
I watched a really good comedy. هنا بنستخدم really قبل good عشان نأكد إن الفيلم حلو أوي. really good معناها حلو جداً.

إزاي تنصح بفيلم بالإنجليزي؟

لما عايز تنصح حد بفيلم، ممكن تستخدم الخطوات دي:

قول اسم الفيلم ونوعه: I watched a great comedy called...
اشرح القصة بسرعة: It's about...
قل رأيك في التمثيل: The acting is great أو The actors are very funny.
اختم بالنصيحة: I really recommend it.

English has two vowel sounds that many learners mix up. They are the short sound /ɪ/ and the long sound /iː/. The difference is how long you hold the vowel and how tense your mouth is. Getting these two sounds right will help you speak more clearly when you talk about films.

To make the short /ɪ/ sound, your tongue is high and forward in your mouth, but relaxed. Your lips are slightly open and not stretched. The sound is short — you hold it for about half a second. It appears in words like film, big, this, cinema and is.

To make the long /iː/ sound, your tongue is also high and forward, but very tense and pushed up. Your lips spread a little, almost like a small smile. The sound is long — you hold it for about a full second, almost twice as long as /ɪ/. It appears in words like feel, scene, be, see and he.

Many film words use these two sounds, so it is important to hear the difference. Listen carefully and notice the length.

في الإنجليزي فيه صوتين للـ vowel كتير من المتعلمين بيخلطوا بينهم، خصوصًا في الكلمات اللي بنستخدمها لما نتكلم عن الأفلام. الصوت الأول هو /ɪ/، وده صوت قصير وسريع ومرتخي. الصوت التاني هو /iː/، وده صوت طويل ومشدود. الفرق بينهم مش بس في اللسان أو الشفايف، لأ، كمان في مدة الصوت وشد العضلات حوالي اللسان.

إزاي بتعمل صوت الـ /ɪ/ القصير؟

الـ tongue بتاعتك بتكون عالية وقريبة من قدام بقك، بس مرتاحة ومفيش ضغط عليها خالص. الـ lips بتكون شوية مفتوحين وممتدين بشكل عادي. الصوت ده قصير جدًا — بتقوله في نص ثانية تقريبًا وبس. أمثلة عليه من الدرس:

الـ tongue كمان بتكون عالية وقريبة من قدام، بس المرة دي بتكون مشدودة ومدفوعة لفوق بقوة. الـ lips بتتمدد شوية على الجنبين، كأنك بتبتسم ابتسامة صغيرة. الصوت ده طويل — بتقوله في ثانية كاملة، يعني تقريبًا ضعف مدة الـ /ɪ/. أمثلة عليه:

ليه ده مهم لما نتكلم عن الأفلام؟

لما بتتكلم عن فيلم، كتير من الكلمات اللي بتقولها فيها الصوتين دول. مثلًا لو قلت: "I really liked this film" أو "The action scene is exciting"، لازم تسمع نفسك وتعرف إنك بتقول الصوت الصح بالمدة الصح. الفرق في الطول هو اللي بيخلي كلامك واضح ومفهوم للمستمع.

نصيحة: في الخطوات الجاية هتسمع الصوتين الأول، وبعدين تكررهم بنفسك. ركز على مدة كل صوت وخد وقتك، ومتحاولش تستعجل.

Hold your hand near your mouth. Say 'fill' — your hand should feel one short puff of air. Now say 'feel' — your hand should feel a longer, stronger push. The first word uses the short, relaxed /ɪ/. The second uses the long, tense /iː/. Practise both a few times before you continue.

Reading film reviews is a great way to choose a good film. In this section, you will read a short review and practise two reading skills: finding the main idea (skimming) and finding specific information (scanning).

Many film reviews have a star rating at the top, like ★★★★☆. This tells you how good the film is, with 5 stars being the best. A film review usually has three parts: a short description of the story, the reviewer's opinion, and a final recommendation. Knowing this structure helps you skim more effectively.

Strategy: Skimming

When you skim a text, you read it quickly to get the general idea. You do not read every word. Look at the title, the first sentences, and the last sentences. Ask yourself: What is this text about? What kind of text is it? Skimming helps you understand the main idea before you read for detail.

Key words to know

Before you read, look at these words. They all appear in the review.

في الدرس ده هنتعلم تكتيك القراءة الذكي. مش كل قراءة زي التانية، لأ في تلات أنواع وكل واحد ليه استخدام مختلف. لما تعرف تستخدم كل نوع في الوقت الصح، هتقرا أسرع وتفهم أحسن بكتير.

أنواع القراءة

Skimming دي إنك تقرا بسرعة عشان تمسك الفكرة العامة. تخيل إنك بتبص على صفحة من بعيد، مش بتقرا كل كلمة، لأ بتركّز على العنوان والـ first sentences والـ last sentences. كده انت فهمت الـ main idea من غير ما تضيّع وقتك.

Scanning دي إنك بتدور على معلومة معينة بسرعة. زي ما لو حد سألك "الفيلم ده حصل كام نجمة؟" مش هتقرا الـ review كله، لأ بتبص بس في رقم النجوم في الأول.

Reading for detail دي بعد ما خلصت الاتنين، بترجع تقرا بهدوء وتركيز عشان تفهم كل التفاصيل الصغيرة.

لما تعرف الشكل ده، الـ skimming بيبقى زي اللعبة. بتشوف النجوم، تقرا أول جملة، تقرا آخر جملة، وبس. ده هيوصلك للفكرة الرئيسية في ثواني. وكمان هتقدر تقرر بسرعة: عايز تتفرج الفيلم ده ولا لأ.

In this section, you will practise recommending a film in a short conversation. First, you will hear a model. Then you will read the key phrase aloud, and finally you will have your own conversation with the AI.

Useful phrases for recommending a film

When you recommend a film, remember three things:

Say the name of the film.
Say what kind of film it is (action, comedy, etc.).
Say one or two reasons why you like it.

Speaking clearly and at a good speed is important when you recommend a film. Don't speak too fast — your friend needs to understand you. Also, use your voice to show how you feel. If you really liked the film, sound excited!

You will hear a model dialogue, practise reading the key phrase, and then have your own conversation with the AI. Try to use at least three of the phrases from the table above.

أهم الجمل اللي هتحتاجها

"Do you want to watch a film tonight?" — دي طريقة طبيعية تفتح بيها الموضوع. لاحظ إننا بنستخدم want to + verb عشان نسأل حد عن خططه.
"I really liked..." — هنا بنستخدم liked (الماضي) عشان نقول إننا شفنا الفيلم قبل كده وعجبنا. كلمة really بتزوّد التأكيد على إعجابك.
"It's an action film. It's really exciting." — الصفة exciting معناها "مثير" وبتيجي بعد be عشان توصف الفيلم نفسه.
"Is the acting good?" — بنستخدم the + noun (the acting) لما نسأل عن التمثيل بشكل عام.
"It's worth watching." — تركيب مهم جداً ومعناه إن الفيلم يستاهل المشاهدة. بنستخدم worth + verb-ing.
"I recommend it." — الفعل recommend معناه "أنصح بـ" وبنحط it بعده عشان نشير على الفيلم.

القواعد اللي لازم تفهمها

1. لوصف الفيلم بنستخدم It's + adjective:

It's an action film.
It's really exciting.
It's worth watching.

2. للتعبير عن رأينا بنستخدم الماضي البسيط:

I really liked it.

3. للنصيحة بنستخدم recommend + it:

لما تترشيح فيلم، فكّر في 3 حاجات: اسم الفيلم، نوعه (أكشن، كوميدي، رعب)، وسبب أو اتنين بيخلّوك تحبه. خلي صوتك فيه حماس ومتكلمش بسرعة عشان صاحبك يفهمك كويس.

دلوقتي هتسجل نفسك وإنت بتقول الجمل دي، وبعدها هتعمل chat مع الذكاء الاصطناعي.

Writing a film review is easier when you have a good plan. Look at this short review from a learner called Sam.

Film Review: The Last Pilot

I watched 'The Last Pilot' last Friday. It is an exciting action film. The story is about a brave young pilot. The action scenes are amazing and the music is great. Tom Reed is a fantastic actor. But the ending is a bit slow. I recommend this film. It is perfect for a Saturday night!

This review has three parts:

Opening sentence — the name and kind of film, and when you watched it.
Middle part — what happens in the film and what you think about it.
Closing sentence — your final recommendation.

The writer uses opinion adjectives like exciting, amazing, great, fantastic and slow to give their opinion. Without these words, the review would only have facts. With them, it sounds personal and interesting.

Using opinion adjectives

In English, we use opinion adjectives to say what we think. For films, common ones are:

positive: amazing, exciting, great, brilliant, funny, romantic, fantastic
negative: boring, slow, bad, terrible, weak

Try to use at least three opinion adjectives in your own review. They make your writing more personal. You can also use linking words like and, but and because to connect your ideas.

In the next steps you will check the model review, then write and read your own short review.

الهيكل بتاع الريفيو

الجملة الافتتاحية: فيها اسم الفيلم، نوعه، وامتى اتفرجت عليه. زي ما Sam كتب: "I watched 'The Last Pilot' last Friday. It is an exciting action film." لاحظ إنه ذكر الوقت (last Friday) والنوع (action film) في أول جملتين.
الجزء الوسط: هنا بتحكي عن إيه قصة الفيلم ورأيك الشخصي فيه. Sam قال إن القصة عن طيار شجاع (a brave young pilot) وإن مشاهد الأكشن رائعة (amazing).
الجملة الختامية: توصيتك النهائية. Sam ختم بـ "I recommend this film. It is perfect for a Saturday night!" وهي دي الفايدة الأساسية من الريفيو - تقنع حد يتفرج ولا لأ.

كلمات الرأي (Opinion Adjectives)

دي الكلمات اللي بتفرق بين ريفيو ممل وريفيو حي وشخصي. من غيرها، الكلام بيبان مجرد حقائق جافة. معاها، بيبان إن فيه إنسان حقيقي بيحكي تجربته.

الإيجابية: amazing, exciting, great, brilliant, funny, romantic, fantastic
السلبية: boring, slow, bad, terrible, weak

القاعدة الذهبية: حاول تحط على الأقل 3 كلمات رأي في الريفيو بتاعك. Sam استخدم amazing و great و fantastic و slow، وده اللي خلى الكلام بتاعه متنوع.

كلمات الربط (Linking Words)

عشان أفكارك تكون مترابطة مش متفرقة، استخدم أدوات الربط دي:

and: بتضيف فكرة تانية. مثال: "The action scenes are amazing and the music is great."
but: بتدل على عكس أو تحفظ. مثال: "The ending is a bit slow but I recommend this film."
because: بتدي سبب. مثال: "I recommend it because it is perfect for a Saturday night!"

خلاصة

اتبع التلات أجزاء، استخدم كلمات رأي، واربط جُملك بـ and و but و because، وهيطلعلك ريفيو قصير بس قوي ومقنع.

When you write a film review, use opinion adjectives to give your opinion. Words like exciting, amazing, boring, great and fantastic tell the reader what you think. They turn facts into a personal review. Look at the model review in the explanation and find the opinion adjectives — there are at least five.
