Want and would like both express what you want. They mean almost the same thing, but they feel different.Want is direct and normal — you use it every day with friends and family.Would like is more polite, so you use it in cafés, shops, or with people you do not know well.
Look at the pattern below. The verb changes, but the rest of the sentence is very similar.
want
would like
Positive
I want a coffee.
I would like a coffee.
Negative
I don't want sugar.
I wouldn't like sugar.
Question
Do you want a cake?
Would you like a cake?
Short answer
Yes, I do. / No, I don't.
Yes, please. / No, thank you.
In questions with "would like", the helping verb is would — we say "Would you like…?", NOT "Do you would like…?". In questions with "want", the helping verb is do or does — we say "Do you want…?" and "Does she want…?".
We often use short forms with "would like":
I'd like a tea, please.
She'd like some chocolate.
We'd like a holiday.
You can also use want to and would like to before another verb: I want to go home. / I would like to go home.
"I'd love" is a stronger, friendlier form. You can say: "I'd love a coffee, thanks!" — perfect when something sounds really good.
الفرق بين want و would like
النهارده هنتكلم عن قاعدة بسيطة بس مهمة جداً في الإنجليزي. لما تحب تقول إنك عايز حاجة معينة، عندك اختيارين: want أو would like. الاتنين بيعبروا عن الرغبة، بس فيه فرق في الإحساس والأدب.
امتى تستخدم كل واحدة؟
want دي مباشرة وبسيطة، بتنفع مع أصحابك وأهلك في البيت أو في المواقف العادية. مثلاً: I want a chocolate cake.
would like دي أرقى وأدب أكتر، بتنفع في الكافيهات والمحلات ومع الناس اللي مش قريبين منك. مثلاً: I'd like a coffee with milk, please.
إزاي نسأل سؤال؟
لما تحب تسأل حد عايز إيه، لازم تستخدم فعل مساعد مناسب. مع want بنستخدم do أو does:
Do you want a cake?
Does she want tea?
مع would like بنستخدم would مباشرة:
Would you like a coffee?
ومهم جداً إنك متقولش "Do you would like" — دي غلطة شائعة، خلي بالك منها.
النفي (النفى)
I don't want sugar.
I wouldn't like sugar.
الاختصارات المهمة
في الحياة اليومية، الإنجليز بيستخدموا اختصارات كتير. I'd دي اختصار لـ I would، وShe'd اختصار لـ She would، وWe'd اختصار لـ We would:
I'd like a tea, please.
She'd like some chocolate.
We'd like a holiday.
استخدام to بعدهم
لو عايز تضيف فعل تاني بعد want أو would like، بتستخدم to في النص:
I want to go home.
I would like to go home.
وقول إيه لما حاجة تعجبك جداً؟
لو حاجة عجبتك جداً وعايز تقول إنك متحمس ليها، استخدم I'd love:
I'd love a coffee, thanks!
في التمارين اللي جاية، ركز على هل الجملة محتاجة want ولا would like، وفكر في مين المستمع عشان تختار الأسلوب الأدب المناسب.
I'd like a coffee with milk, please.
Notice the short form 'I'd'.
I want a chocolate cake.
Notice the direct verb 'want'.

It is Saturday afternoon.Emma and Tom meet at a small café in town. They sit down, look at the menu, and start to talk. The café is quiet, and there is soft music in the background. They are going to order a drink and a cake, and also chat about what makes them happy — the main topic of this lesson.
In this conversation, you will hear 'would like' and 'want' used naturally. Listen for who uses which form, and why. You will also hear the words happy, music, family, friends, sunshine, chocolate, weekend, and holiday from the vocabulary table.
Before you listen, think about this question: When you are in a café, do you usually say "I want…" or "I'd like…"? Listen and find out which form Emma and Tom use — and notice the difference it makes.
Key words you will hear:
coffee — a hot dark drink
milk — a white drink you put in coffee or tea
cake — a sweet food, often for dessert
chocolate — a sweet brown food
family — your parents, brothers, sisters
music — sounds and songs
evening — the time after the afternoon
weekend — Saturday and Sunday
المشهد العام
في الدرس ده، هتسمع Emma و Tom في café يوم Saturday afternoon، بيطلبوا مشروبات وحلويات، وبيبدأوا يحكوا عن حاجة بسيطة بس مهمة: what makes you happy. الجملة دي معناها "إيه اللي بيسعدك؟"، وهي سؤال شائع جدًا في المحادثات اليومية.
Would like ولا Want؟
في الجملة الأولى لـ Tom، هتلاحظ إنه قال "I'd like a coffee, please"، مش "I want a coffee". الاتنين معناه إنك عايز حاجة، بس فيهم فرق مهم:
I want... — مباشرة شوية، وبتستخدمها أكتر في الكلام العادي مع أهلك أو صحابك.
I'd like... (= I would like...) — مهذبة وراقية، وده اللي بتستخدمه في café أو مطعم أو مع حد جديد.
لما Tom قال "I'd like a coffee, please. With milk"، ده اختيار مثالي لأنه في مكان عام. وكمان Emma ردّت بنفس الأسلوب: "Same for me, thanks".
إزاي تقول إيه اللي بيسعدك
الجزء الأهم في الحوار هو استخدام فعل make بمعنى "يسعد" أو "يخلي حد يحس بإحساس معين". الصيغة العامة:
Something makes me happy.
Listening to music in the evening makes me really happy. — الموسيقى بتسمعها وبتستمتع بيها.
Time with my family at the weekend makes me very happy. — الوقت مع العيلة.
لاحظ إن الفعل اللي بييجي قبل makes ممكن يكون:
Verb + ing زي listening.
Noun phrase زي time with my family.
كلمات جديدة هتسمعها
coffee — مشروب ساخن غامق.
milk — اللبن اللي بتحطه في القهوة أو الشاي.
cake — حلو، غالبًا بتاكلها بعد الأكل.
chocolate — الشوكولاتة، اللي بيوصفها Tom في الآخر.
music — الأصوات والأغاني.
evening — الوقت بعد الضهر.
weekend — السبت والأحد.
family — الوالدين والإخوات.
جملة مفيدة تاخدها معاك
لما حد يسألك "What makes you happy?"، جاوب بنفس التركيب اللي سمعته:
"Spending time with my friends makes me very happy.""Reading books in the evening makes me really happy."
جرّب تكمّل الجملة بكلمة من عندك — وافتكر إن makes me happy هو السر هنا.

Today we look at two sounds that look similar but feel very different: /w/ and /v/. Many learners mix them up — and the words want and van show that one small sound can change the meaning completely.
How to make /w/ — the 'double-u' sound
Round your lips into a small 'oo' shape, like you are about to whistle.
Lift the back of your tongue gently towards the roof of your mouth.
Let the air flow out freely. Your voice does NOT vibrate.
Move quickly into the next vowel.
How to make /v/ — the lip-and-teeth sound
Touch your top teeth to your bottom lip.
Let air and voice flow through. You CAN feel a buzz in your throat — this sound is voiced.
Keep your lips and teeth close together as you say the sound.
Words with /w/: want, week, water, with, when, window.
Words with /v/: very, van, have, love, evening, never.
Minimal pairs (small sound change = new word):
want / van
wine / vine
west / vest
wet / vet
Try this now: Say want, week, water out loud — round your lips. Now say van, very, love out loud — feel your top teeth on your bottom lip. In this lesson you will hear both sounds in the café dialogue: "I want a coffee" and "I love chocolate."
Minimal pairs: أزواج الكلمات اللي بتتغير بس بصوت واحد
دي كلمات لو بدّلت صوت واحد بس، هتتغير معناها:
want / van
wine / vine
west / vest
wet / vet
نصيحة عملية
أحسن طريقة تعرف الصوت الصح إيه هي إنك تمسك رقبتك بإيدك. لو قولت want هتلاقي رقبتك ساكتة تماماً، لكن لو قولت van هتحس بيها بتولع. ده اختبار بسيط وسريع يوفّر عليك وقت كتير.
في الدرس ده هتسمع جمل زي I want a coffee و I'd love a coffee، ركّز على النطق في الكلمتين دول عشان تتعلم الفرق صح.
/w/ = round your lips like 'oo', air flows out, no voice buzz./v/ = top teeth touch bottom lip, voice buzzes in your throat. Try both sounds now.

إزاي تطلب في الكافيه بأدب وبتسهيل
في الجزء ده من الدرس، هنتعلم ازاي تطلب مشروب أو حاجة في كافيه بأسلوب مهذب، وكمان هنتعلم إزاي تقول حاجة بسيطة عن اللي بيفرحك في حياتك. الجمل اللي هتشتغل عليها كلها جمل قصيرة، سهلة، وتستخدمها في الحياة اليومية.
1. الطلب بأدب: I'd like…
أهم جملة في الدرس ده هي I'd like، ودي اختصار لـ I would like. معناها "عايز من فضلك" أو "ياريت كده".
I'd like a tea, please. = ياريت شاي لو سمحت.
I'd like a coffee, please. = ياريت قهوة لو سمحت.
Yes, please. I'd like a chocolate cake. = أيوه لو سمحت، عايز كيكة شوكولاتة.
2. سؤال الجرسون ليك: What would you like?
الجرسون بيسألك: "تحب إيه؟" فيقولك What would you like to drink? يعني "تحب تشرب إيه؟".
3. عرض حاجة على حد: Would you like…?
لما الجرسون عايز يعرض عليك حاجة زي كيكة، بيقولك:
Would you like a cake too? = تحب كيكة كمان؟
Anything else? = حاجة تانية؟
وترد عليه:
Yes, please. = أيوه لو سمحت.
No, thank you. That's all. = لأ، شكراً. كفاية كده.
4. الكلام عن اللي بيفرحك: …makes me happy
ده باترن سهل جداً. خد أي حاجة بتحبها وحطها قبل makes me happy:
Music makes me happy. = الموسيقى بتفرحني.
My family makes me happy. = عيلتي بتفرحني.
Chocolate makes me happy. = الشوكولاتة بتفرحني.
5. نصايح صغيرة
استخدم I'd like لما تطلب، لأنها مهذبة.
دايماً قول please لما تطلب، وthank you لما تاخد.
لما ترد على سؤال قصير، خلّي ردك قصير زي Yes, please أو No, thank you.
ابتسم لما تتكلم — ابتسامتك بتفرح اللي قدامك فعلاً!

Words help us share our feelings. In this lesson, we look at eight common words about happiness — things that often make people feel good. Read the table carefully, then read each example sentence out loud. You will meet these words again in the listening and speaking parts.
Word
Type
Example sentence
happy
adjective
Music makes me happy.
music
noun
I love music in the morning.
family
noun
My family lives in a small town.
friends
noun
I have three close friends.
sunshine
noun
Sunshine always makes me smile.
chocolate
noun
I'd like some chocolate, please.
weekend
noun
I love the weekend.
holiday
noun
She wants a holiday in summer.
Notice the useful phrase "makes me + adjective". We use it to talk about what makes us happy. For example: "My familymakes mehappy." or "Musicmakes mehappy." The verb makes agrees with the thing (a thing, not a person). If you talk about people, you can say "My friendsmake me happy."
Some of these words also appear naturally with would like and want. For example: "I'd like some chocolate." or "I want a holiday." You will hear these combinations in the next sections.
كلمات عن السعادة - Words about happiness
في الدرس ده بنتعلم ٨ كلمات إنجليزي بنستخدمهم لما نحكي عن الحاجات اللي بتفرحنا في حياتنا اليومية. كلهم كلمات بسيطة، يعني هتستخدمهم في كلامك العادي مع أصحابك وعيلتك من غير ما تحس إنك بتتكلم صعب.
أنواع الكلمات (Word types):
Music makes me happy. (الموسيقى بتفرحني)
Sunshine makes me happy. (الشمس بتفرحني)
Chocolate makes me happy. (الشوكولاتة بتفرحني)
لاحظ حاجة مهمة جداً: makes بنستخدمها مع الاسم المفرد أو it. لو الاسم جمع بنستخدم make من غير s:
My friends make me happy. (صحابي بيفرحوني)
Music and sunshine make me happy. (الموسيقى والشمس بيفرحوني)
كلمات بتستخدم مع want و would like:
بعض الكلمات دي بتيجي مع want (عايز) أو would like (يا ريت) لما نطلب أو نتمنى:
I want a holiday. (أنا عايز إجازة)
I'd like some chocolate. (أنا عايز شوية شوكولاتة)
I love the weekend. (أنا بحب نهاية الأسبوع)
كلمات عن الناس اللي بنحبهم:
family = عيلة. بنستخدمها كجمع أحياناً: "My family are kind" (عيلتي طيبين)، أو كمجموعة واحدة: "My family is big" (عيلتي كبيرة).
friends = أصحاب. لما تحب تقول "صاحب من أصحابي" بتقول "a friend of mine".
جرب دلوقتي:
قول جملة واحدة على الأقل عن حاجة بتفرحك. مثلاً: "Music makes me happy" أو "My family makes me happy". الكلمات اللي في الدرس ده هتساعدك تعبّر عن اللي جواك بطلاقة.
