Welcome to the Unit 3 Review. Over the last few lessons you have been working with three important areas of English: time vocabulary, the present continuous for future plans, and prepositions of time. This review brings all three areas together and gives you a chance to check what you can remember before you move on to the next unit. By the end of this review you should feel confident using these three areas in writing and speaking.

Let's start with time vocabulary. You can tell the time in English in several ways. You can use numbers, for example 'seven o'clock' or 'ten thirty'. You can also use the expressions 'half past' (30 minutes past the hour), 'quarter past' (15 minutes past) and 'quarter to' (15 minutes before the next hour). It is also useful to know the parts of the day: 'morning' (until about noon), 'afternoon' (until about six o'clock), 'evening' (until bedtime) and 'night' (when you sleep). You should also remember 'noon' (12:00 midday) and 'midnight' (24:00). For days and dates, we say 'today', 'tomorrow', 'yesterday', 'this week', 'next month' and 'last year'.

The present continuous is not only for actions happening now. We also use it for fixed arrangements in the future. The form is simple: subject + be + verb-ing. We use it when we have already made a plan, often with another person, a place and a time. For example: 'I'm meeting my sister at the airport at six o'clock.' 'We're flying to Paris on Friday.' 'She's having dinner with Tom tonight.' The time expression usually comes at the end, but it can also come at the beginning for emphasis: 'Tomorrow I'm starting my new job.' This tense is very common in spoken English and in informal writing such as messages and emails to friends.

Now let's look at prepositions of time. We use at with clock times and parts of the day: 'at seven o'clock', 'at half past nine', 'at noon', 'at night'. We use on with days and dates: 'on Monday', 'on 6 March', 'on my birthday', 'on the weekend'. We use in with longer periods: 'in the morning', 'in July', 'in 2025', 'in summer'. A quick way to remember this is: at = exact time, on = a day or date, in = a period of time.

Finally, you will write a short blog post (60-100 words) about your plans for next week. Use the present continuous to talk about fixed arrangements, and remember the correct prepositions of time. Use capital letters at the start of sentences and for days, months and the word 'I'. Check your work when you finish. Good luck!

الـ Unit 3 Review — ملخص شامل على كل اللي اتعلمته في الوحدة

الوحدة دي كانت عن تلات حاجات مهمة في الإنجليزي: مفردات الوقت، والـ present continuous للخطط المستقبلية، وحروف الجر للوقت. الـ review ده بيجمعهم كلهم مع بعض عشان تتأكد إنك فاكرهم كويس قبل ما ننتقل للوحدة اللي بعدها.

أولاً: مفردات الوقت (Time Vocabulary)

وبالنسبة للأيام والتواريخ بنقول "today"، "tomorrow"، "yesterday"، "this week"، "next month"، و"last year".

ثانياً: الـ Present Continuous للخطط المستقبلية

الـ present continuous مش بس للأفعال اللي بتحصل دلوقتي! بنستخدمه كمان لما يكون عندنا خطة ثابتة في المستقبل (fixed arrangement). القاعدة بسيطة جداً: subject + be + verb-ing. يعني خد بالك إن الفعل لازم ينتهي بـ -ing. مثال على كده: Tomorrow I'm flying to Dublin with my brother at six o'clock in the morning. هنا فيه شخص (my brother)، ومكان (Dublin)، ووقت (six o'clock in the morning tomorrow) — وده بيدل إن دي خطة ثابتة. شوف الأمثلة دي كمان:

  • I'm meeting my sister at the airport at six o'clock.
  • We're flying to Paris on Friday.
  • She's having dinner with Tom tonight.

تعبير الوقت غالباً بيجي في آخر الجملة، بس ممكن نسيبه في الأول عشان نركز عليه أو نأكد عليه: Tomorrow I'm starting my new job. النوع ده من الجمل شائع جداً في الكلام اليومي والرسائل.

ثالثاً: حروف الجر للوقت (Prepositions of Time)

دي قاعدة سهلة لو فهمتها صح. فكر فيها كده:

  • at = وقت محدد بالظبط: at seven o'clock، at noon، at night، at half past nine
  • on = يوم أو تاريخ معين: on Monday، on 6 March، on my birthday، on the weekend
  • in = فترة زمنية أطول: in the morning، in July، in 2025، in summer

يعني الـ at أدق واحدة، والـ in أعم واحدة.

الـ Writing Task

المطلوب منك تكتب blog post قصير من 60 لـ 100 كلمة عن خططك للأسبوع الجاي. استخدم الـ present continuous للخطط الثابتة زي "I'm meeting" أو "We're going to"، وركّز على حروف الجر الصح مع الوقت. افتكر تبدأ كل جملة بحرف كبير (capital letter)، وأسماء الأيام والشهور، وكلمة I، ولما تخلص، راجع شغلك كويس. بالتوفيق!

'I'm meeting my friend tomorrow' is a present continuous sentence about a future arrangement.

Tomorrow I'm flying to Dublin with my brother at six o'clock in the morning.

Listen to the example. Notice the present continuous (I'm flying) used for a fixed future plan, and the prepositions of time (at six o'clock, in the morning).

📝 PREPARE. Before you write, gather your ideas. Think about your plans for next week and make a short list of 5 fixed arrangements. For each one, write: who you are meeting OR where you are going, AND when. Use the present continuous and prepositions of time. Example: 'I'm meeting Sam at the café on Saturday afternoon.' You can use these ideas: meet a friend, have dinner, fly to a city, start a class, visit family, go to a party.

✍️ WRITE. Now write a short blog post of 60-100 words about your plans for next week. Start with a title or opening line such as 'Next week I'm very busy.' or 'My plans for next week:'. Include at least 5 present continuous sentences and use at least 5 prepositions of time (at / on / in). Don't forget capital letters at the start of sentences and for days, months and the word 'I'.

REVIEW. Read your blog post and check the following: 1) Did you use the present continuous for future plans? (e.g. 'I am meeting…', 'We are flying…') 2) Did you use the correct preposition of time? (at + time, on + day, in + period) 3) Did you use capital letters at the start of sentences and for days, months and 'I'? 4) Is your post between 60 and 100 words? 5) Is the spelling correct? Make any changes you need before you finish.
