Unit 2 Review

This is your Unit 2 review. You practice three big ideas from this unit: have / has, family words, and words for appearance.

First, look at have and has. We use have with I, you, we, and they. We use has with he, she, and it. Look at the table:

In questions, we say Do you have…? and Does he have…?. Short answers are: Yes, I do. / No, I don't. Yes, he does. / No, he doesn't.

Next, review the family words: mother, father, sister, brother, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, cousin, and family. We can also use my + family word: my mother, my brother.

Then, review appearance words: tall, short, old, young, long hair, short hair, blonde, brown, black, blue, green, big, small.

Your writing task: write about a family member. Say who it is, what they look like, and what they have.

Using capital letters. Begin every sentence with a capital letter. Use a capital letter for the names of people: My Grandma Maria has grey hair.

الفعل have و has

القاعدة بسيطة: الفعل have بيتستخدم مع I, you, we, they. لكن الفعل has بيتستخدم مع he, she, it. يعني لو بتتكلم عن نفسك أو عن مجموعة، بتقول have. لو بتتكلم عن حد تالت، بتقول has.

I have a big family.
They have two brothers.
She has short hair.
He has blue eyes.

في الأسئلة، بنقول Do you have…? و Does he have…?, والإجابة المختصرة بتبقى Yes, I do. أو No, I don't.

اتعلمت مجموعة كلمات عن العيلة، وكلهم بينفعوا مع my قبلهم:

مثال: My grandma has grey hair. لاحظ إن my قبل أي كلمة عيلة بتفيد التمليك.

عشان توصف شكل حد، عندك كلمات كتير:

tall (طويل) و short (قصير)
old و young
long hair و short hair
ألوان الشعر: blonde, brown, black
ألوان العنين: blue, green
big و small

مثال: My grandma has short grey hair. هنا استخدمنا has عشان grandma (she)، ووصفنا الشعر بـ short و grey.

اكتب عن حد من عيلتك في تلات حاجات: مين هو، شكله إيه، وإيه اللي عنده. الأهم من كده: ابدأ كل جملة بحرف كبير (Capital letter)، وكمان أسماء الناس لازم تتبقى بحرف كبير. يبقى My Grandma Maria has grey hair، مش my grandma maria. اتمرن على الكروت اللي تحت وبعدين روح للكتابة!

Listen to the sentence. What does the brother look like?

He is big.

PREPARE — Get your ideas ready.

Think of one family member: mother, father, sister, brother, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, or cousin.
Look at their face. Are they tall or short? Old or young?
Look at their hair. Long or short? What color? Black, brown, or blonde?
Look at their eyes. What color are they?
Now think: what do they have? What things do they have in their hands or in their home?

Make a list of your ideas: • Family member: __ • Appearance: __ • They have: _____

WRITE — Now write 4 or 5 sentences about this person. Use has for he / she. Use have for I / you / we / they. Start every sentence with a capital letter. Use names with a capital letter.

Example: 'My Grandma Maria is old. She has short grey hair. She has blue eyes. She has a big smile. We have a happy family.'

Now write about your family member.

REVIEW — Check your writing. Look at these 4 things:

✓ Does every sentence start with a CAPITAL letter? ✓ Did you use has with he / she / it? ✓ Did you use have with I / you / we / they? ✓ Did you write about appearance (tall, short, old, young, long, short hair, hair color, eye color)?

Did you say what your family member has? If yes, great! Fix any mistakes you find.

Read this example. Notice 'has' with 'she' and the capital letter 'M' in 'My'.
