When you go to a café, you need some useful phrases. First, you greet the waiter. Then, you look at the menu and order. Finally, you ask for the bill. In English, people are polite. They say "please" and "thank you" a lot.

Here are common café phrases:

When you order, you can say "Can I have…" or "I'd like…". Both are polite. The waiter often asks "Anything else?" This means: do you want more food or drinks? You can answer "No, thank you" or "Yes, I'd like a cake, please".

At the end of your meal, say "Can I have the bill, please?" In American English, "bill" means the same as "check". The waiter will bring the paper. Then you pay and say "Thank you, have a nice day". These small phrases make your café visit easy and friendly.

تخيل إنك داخل كافيه جديد في شارع مش بتعرفه. عايز تطلب قهوة وساندويتش، بس مش عارف تقول إيه بالظبط. الموضوع أبسط مما تتخيل! في الدرس ده هنتعلم الجُمل اللي محتاجها من أول ما تدخل لحد ما تدفع وتخرج.

الحوار الأساسي في الكافيه

في أي كافيه، الكلام بيكون قصير ومباشر. لما تدخل، الجارسون هيقولك حاجة زي "What can I get you?" يعني "أقدملك إيه؟". لو عايز تشوف المنيو الأول، قوله "Can I see the menu, please?".

إزاي تطلب - أسلوبين مهذبين

لما تيجي تطلب الأكل أو الشراب، عندك اختيارين:

  • Can I have a coffee, please? — أسلوب بسيط ومباشر، زي اللي بيقول "ممكن قهوة؟"
  • I'd like a coffee and a sandwich, please. — أسلوب أرقى، بيقول "أنا عايز قهوة وساندويتش". حرف الـ 'd ده اختصار لكلمة would

سؤال مهم: Anything else?

بعد ما تطلب، الجارسون غالباً هيسألك "Anything else?" يعني "عايز حاجة تانية؟". الإجابة يا إما "No, thank you" لو خلصت، يا إما "Yes, please" لو عايز تضيف حاجة.

طلب الفاتورة

في الآخر، لما تخلص، لازم تطلب الفاتورة. الجملة السحرية هي "Can I have the bill, please?". في أمريكا بيقولوا bill أو check، الاتنين نفس المعنى. ووقتها الجارسون ممكن يرد عليك "Here you are"، يعني "تفضل".

نصيحة ذهبية: Please و Thank you

في الإنجليزية، الكلمتين دول بيظهروا كتير. ده مش بيبان غريب، ده العادي. لو ما قلتهاش، كلامك بيبان جاف. فحاول دايماً:

  • تختم أي طلب بـ please
  • تقول thank you على أي حاجة حد عملها معاك
  • وتقول Have a nice day! وانت ماشي

الفرق بين Can I have و I'd like

  • Can I have = "ممكن أجيب؟" — ودي ودية وسهلة، مناسبة للمبتدئين
  • I'd like = "أنا عايز (بأدب)" — أدب شوية، بتبان أكثر راحة

First, Tom says hello and asks what Sara wants. Sara orders a coffee and a cake. She also asks the price. At the end, she asks for the bill. This is a typical café conversation. You will hear these key phrases:

في الدرس ده هنتعلم إزاي نطلب أكل وشرب في كافيه بالإنجليزي، من خلال الحوار بين سارة اللي رايحة الكافيه، وتوم الجرسون.

  • is + number + dollars = عشان تقول السعر (القهوة بتلاتة دولار).
  • total = الإجمالي / الكل.
  • "So seven dollars total" يعني "يعني سبعة دولار بالكل".

الحساب في الآخر: سارة قالت "Can I have the bill, please?" يعني "ممكن الحساب من فضلك؟". في أمريكا بيقولوا "bill" أو "check"، الاتنين بمعنى الحساب.

نصيحة للاستماع: ركّز الأول على الفكرة العامة للحوار (مين طلب إيه). بعدين اسمع للأرقام والسعر. وفي الآخر هتلاقي تفصيلة صغيرة ناقصة لازم تملاها. خلي ودنك على الكلمات دي: coffee, cake, bill, dollars.

Today we look at the /k/ sound. This is a very common sound in English, and you can hear it in many café words like coffee, cake, and cup.

To make the /k/ sound, put the back of your tongue against the back of your mouth. Then, push air out quickly. Do not use your voice — your throat should not vibrate. Your mouth should feel a small puff of air. This is why /k/ is called an "unvoiced" sound.

The /k/ sound appears at the start of words like coffee, cake, cookie, cup, and chicken. It also appears at the end of words like cake, like, and milk. Listen for the /k/ sound when you order at a café: "Can I have a coffee and a piece of cake, please?"

Reading strategy: Skimming When you skim a text, you read it quickly to get the general idea. Do not read every word. Look at the title, the first line, and the last line. Skimming helps you understand the main idea in a short time. We use skimming for menus, reviews, and short articles.

Key words to know before you read:

Today we write a short food review. A food review tells other people about a café or restaurant. People read reviews to choose where to eat. A good review has a few important parts: the name of the place, the food, the service, and a star rating.

Model text:

"My Café Review: Moon Café I love Moon Café! The coffee is hot and very good. The cake is sweet and delicious. The sandwiches are fresh and big. The waiters are friendly. The prices are good. I go there every Sunday. Moon Café is a great place for friends. Try it!"

This review is about 50 words. It uses short, simple sentences. It is easy to read.

Strategy: Using adjectives Adjectives are words that describe things. They make your review interesting. In the model, the writer uses these adjectives: hot, good, sweet, delicious, fresh, big, friendly.

For food, good adjectives are: delicious, fresh, hot, cold, sweet. For places: nice, friendly, clean, quiet. For prices: expensive, cheap, good, fair.

Try to use 2-3 adjectives in your review. Do not use only "good" — try delicious or fresh!

Now you write your own review. Choose a real café or a pretend café. Write 40-60 words. Use the model and the adjectives above. When you finish, read your review aloud. Listen to your own voice and check: Did I use adjectives? Are my sentences short and clear?

الـ Food Review الكويس بيبقى فيه إيه؟

أي ريفيو كويس لازم يكون فيه أربع حاجات أساسية:

  • اسم المكان زي ما مكتوب في الـ model: Moon Café
  • الأكل اللي جربته ووصفه
  • الخدمة أو بمعنى أصح الناس اللي بتشتغل هناك
  • رأيك الشخصي في المكان كله

الـ Adjectives هي اللي بتعمل الفرق

Adjective معناها صفة، والصفات دي هي اللي بتحوّل الكلام من ممل لحيوي. تخيل إنك قلت في كل جملة "the coffee is good" — الكلام هيبقى ممل جداً. لكن لما تستخدم صفات مختلفة، الكلام بيبقى أحلى بكتير.

في الـ model اللي قدامك، الكاتب استخدم صفات زي hot (سخن)، delicious (لذيذ)، sweet (حلو)، fresh (طازة)، friendly (ودودين)، و big (كبير).

صفات تقدر تستخدمها للأكل:

  • delicious — لذيذ
  • fresh — طازة
  • hot — سخن
  • cold — بارد
  • sweet — حلو

صفات للأماكن والناس:

  • nice — حلو أو لطيف
  • friendly — ودودين

خلي جملك قصيرة وبسيطة

لاحظ في الـ model، كل الجمل قصيرة وبتبدأ بـ "The" وبعدها اسم وصف. مثلاً:

  • The coffee is hot and very good
  • The cake is sweet and delicious
  • The sandwiches are fresh and big

ده ستايل سهل جداً وبيخلّي اللي بيقرا يفهم بسرعة.

المطلوب منك دلوقتي

اكتب ريفيو من 40 لـ 60 كلمة عن كافيه حقيقي أو من خيالك. حاول تستخدم على الأقل 2 أو 3 صفات مختلفة، ومتقولش "good" في كل جملة. ولما تخلص، اقرأ الكلام بصوت عالي واسمع نفسك — هل الجمل واضحة؟ هل الصفات موجودة؟ يلا نبدأ!

Adjectives describe things. They make your review more interesting.

Look at this example:

  • "The coffee is good." ← OK, but simple.
  • "The coffee is hot and delicious." ← Better! Two adjectives.

Use 2-3 adjectives in your food review. Try words like: delicious, fresh, hot, friendly, clean.
