Welcome to the Unit 9 Review. This unit looked at how to talk about the environment and the future in English. You learned two ways to talk about the future — will and going to — and a lot of new words for nature, environmental problems, and solutions. In this lesson, you will review all of that and finish with a short blog post writing task.

Let's start with the grammar. We use will for spontaneous decisions, predictions, offers, and promises. The form is will + bare infinitive: 'I'll help you with the bags' (offer), or 'I think it will rain tomorrow' (prediction). We use going to for plans we have already made, or when there is clear evidence now. The form is am/is/are + going to + bare infinitive: 'I'm going to study biology next year' (a plan), or 'Look at those clouds — it's going to rain soon' (evidence).

Here is a quick comparison:

Use Form Example
Spontaneous decision will + infinitive 'I'll have the soup, please.'
Prediction will + infinitive 'She'll be famous one day.'
Offer / promise will + infinitive 'I won't tell anyone, I promise.'
Plan / intention going to + infinitive 'We're going to travel in July.'
Evidence now going to + infinitive 'Watch out! You're going to fall!'

Will shortens to 'll (I'll, you'll, he'll, she'll, we'll, they'll), and will not becomes won't. With going to, we contract the verb be: I'm, you're, he's, she's, it's, we're, they're. In speaking, going to often sounds like gonna, but only in informal chat — never in writing.

Now the vocabulary. The unit covered words for the natural world — forest, river, mountain, ocean, beach, lake, field, wildlife, habitat — for environmental problems — pollution, litter, waste, smoke, chemicals, climate change, global warming, deforestation, drought — and for solutions — recycle, reuse, reduce, save energy, plant, protect, clean up, turn off, throw away, cut down, use less. Useful adjectives include polluted, clean, green, sustainable, renewable, harmful, environmentally friendly.

The writing task is to write a blog post about how you help the environment. A blog post is a personal, short piece of writing with a title, an introduction, 2-3 short paragraphs, and a conclusion. Use going to for your plans, will for promises and predictions, and the environment vocabulary above. Using capital letters is a simple but important habit in English (UK): the first word of every sentence, the pronoun I (always), names of people and places, days and months, and the first word of a title. Always check your capital letters when you finish writing.

مراجعة الوحدة 9: البيئة والمستقبل

يا أهلاً بيكم تاني في نهاية الوحدة. الوحدة دي اتعلمنا فيها حاجتين أساسيتين: إزاي نتكلم عن المستقبل بـ will و going to، وإزاي نتكلم عن البيئة بكلماتها المختلفة.

الفرق بين will و going to

will بنستخدمه في 4 حالات:

  • القرارات اللحظية (spontaneous decisions): حاجة قررتها في نفس اللحظة، زي ما حد يقولك "I'm tired" وإنت ترد "I'll help you with the bags".
  • التوقعات (predictions): تخمين عن المستقبل من غير دليل قدامك، زي "I think it will rain tomorrow" أو "She'll be famous one day".
  • العروض (offers): زي "I'll have the soup, please".
  • الوعود (promises): زي "I won't tell anyone, I promise".

going to بنستخدمه في حالتين:

  • الخطط (plans): حاجة مقررها من قبل، زي "We're going to travel in July" أو "I'm going to study biology next year".
  • الدليل المرئي (evidence): لما تشوف حاجة قدامك، زي "Look at those clouds — it's going to rain soon" أو "Watch out! You're going to fall!".

الـ contractions المهمة

  • will بتتقلب لـ 'll: I'll, you'll, he'll, she'll, we'll, they'll
  • will not بتصير won't
  • مع going to بنقص الـ verb be: I'm, you're, he's, we're, they're
  • في الكلام، going to بتنطق "gonna" بس متكتبهاش أبداً

كلمات البيئة

الكلمات متقسمة لـ 3 مجموعات:

  • الطبيعة: forest, river, mountain, ocean, beach, lake, field, wildlife, habitat
  • المشاكل: pollution, litter, waste, smoke, chemicals, climate change, deforestation, drought
  • الحلول: recycle, reuse, reduce, save energy, clean up, turn off, plant, protect

وكمان صفات زي: polluted, clean, green, sustainable, renewable, environmentally friendly.

التكليف: اكتب blog post

المطلوب تكتب blog post قصير عن إزاي بتساعد البيئة. لازم يكون فيه title و introduction و 2-3 فقرات و conclusion. استخدم going to للخطط و will للوعود والتوقعات، وحط الكلمات اللي اتعلمتها.

الـ Capital letters

  • We should pollute more water to help fish.
  • I always recycle paper and plastic at home.
  • Deforestation means planting new forests.
  • Litter is good for the environment.
Required

Required

Read this sentence aloud. Speak clearly and at a natural speed, like a real person writing a blog post.

I recycle paper and plastic at home to help the environment.

PREPARE. Before you write, take 2-3 minutes to plan your ideas. Think about your home, school, neighbourhood, and shopping habits. Consider: recycling, saving water, saving energy, walking or cycling, picking up litter, using reusable bags, planting trees. Don't write full sentences yet — just keywords and short notes. Good preparation makes the writing step much easier.

WRITE. It is time to write your blog post. Aim for 120-150 words. Start with a clear title (e.g. 'How My Family Helps the Planet'). Write an introduction: why the environment matters to you. Write 2-3 sentences about the actions you take, using going to for your plans and will for promises and predictions. End with a short conclusion: a strong message or call to action for your reader. Use environment vocabulary from the unit: recycle, reduce, save energy, plant, protect, pollution, planet, wildlife. Remember: capital letters at the start of every sentence, and I is always capital.

REVIEW. When you finish, look at your blog post three times: 1. Check capital letters. Look at the first word of every sentence, the word 'I', and any names (people, places, organisations). 2. Check grammar. Did you use 'will' for predictions and offers, and 'going to' for plans and evidence? Are the verb forms correct? 3. Check meaning. Does your post make sense? Is the message clear and positive? If you can, ask a friend or family member to read it too. A clean, correct blog post makes a much stronger impression.

Required

  • will
  • going to
  • present continuous
