Talk about work and study

Grammar

10 cards

The present simple talks about things we do every day. We use it for routines, jobs, and habits.

When the subject is he, she, it, or one name (Tom, Anna), we add -s or -es to the verb. Look at the table:

Subject Verb form Example
I work I work in a school.
You work You work in a school.
He / She / It works He works in a school.
They work They work in a school.

Verbs that end in -s, -sh, -ch, -x, or -o add -es: watch → watches, go → goes, do → does.

For questions with he/she/it, we use does at the start. The main verb does NOT add -s.

  • Does Anna work here? Yes, she does.
  • Does Tom go to school? No, he doesn't.

For negatives, we use does not (doesn't).

  • He doesn't work on Sunday.

إزاي بتتكلم عن شغلك ودراستك بالإنجليزي

في الدرس ده هنتعلم الـ Present Simple، يعني المضارع البسيط. ده الزمن اللي بنستخدمه لما نتكلم عن حاجة بنعملها كل يوم، أو عن شغلنا، أو عاداتنا اليومية. مثلاً لما تقول "I work in a hospital" يعني "أنا بشتغل في مستشفى"، أو "Anna studies English every day" يعني "أنا بتدرس إنجليزي كل يوم".

القاعدة الأساسية: الـ -s والـ -es

في الإنجليزي لما بنتكلم عن شخص واحد - يعني he أو she أو it أو اسم واحد زي Tom أو Anna - بنحط -s أو -es في آخر الفعل. بص كده:

  • Tom works in a hospital. (Tom بيشتغل في مستشفى)
  • She goes to school. (هي بتروح المدرسة)
  • He studies every day. (هو بيدرس كل يوم)

لكن لو الفعل خلاصته -s أو -sh أو -ch أو -x أو -o، بنضيف -es مش -s بس:

  • watch → watches (يتفرج)
  • go → goes (يروح)
  • do → does (يعمل)

الأسئلة: Questions

لو عايز تسأل سؤال عن he أو she أو it، بنستخدم does في الأول، والفعل الرئيسي يرجع لصورته الأصلية من غير -s:

  • Does Anna work here? (هل أنا بيشتغل هنا؟) - الإجابة: Yes, she does.
  • Does Tom go to school? (هل Tom بيروح المدرسة؟) - الإجابة: No, he doesn't.

النفي: Negatives

لو عايز تنفي الجملة، بنستخدم doesn't (اللي هي does not):

  • He doesn't work on Sunday. (هو مش بيشتغل يوم الحد)
  • She doesn't study at night. (هي مش بتدرس بالليل)

خد بالك إن في النفي والأسئلة، الفعل الرئيسي بيفضل في صورته الأصلية من غير -s، لأن الـ does أو doesn't هي اللي بتاخد دور الـ -s ده.

نصيحة للتمارين

لما تشوف التمارين اللي تحت، ركز على الفاعل (subject) الأول. لو كان he أو she أو it، دور على الـ -s في آخر الفعل. ولو شفت does أو doesn't، افتكر إن الفعل بعدها هيكون من غير -s.

In this lesson, you hear two friends meet and talk about their work and study. Tom and Emma are at a coffee shop after class. They ask each other about their daily life.

Before you listen, think: When someone asks "What do you do?", what is the question about? It's about your job or study.

You will hear Tom and Emma talk about their work, where they work, and when they rest. Listen for verbs with -s (works, studies, rests).

الاستماع: إيه الشغل والدراسة بتاعتك؟

في الدرس ده، هتسمع محادثة بين اتنين أصحاب بيقابلوا بعض في كافيه. توم وإيما بيكلموا عن شغلهم ودراستهم. الفكرة إنك تسمع وتفهم كل واحد بيقول إيه، وتاخد فكرة عامة عن المحادثة.

السؤال المهم: "What do you do?"

لما حد يقولك "What do you do?"، مش بيسألك عن يومك ولا عن أحوالك. لأ، ده بيسألك عن وظيفتك أو دراستك. يعني إيه شغلك أو إيه اللي بتدرسه. في المحادثة، توم ويقول "I'm a doctor"، وإيما بتقول "I'm a student". السؤال ده من أشهر الأسئلة في الإنجليزي، وهتلاقيه في أي مقابلة شغل أو تعريف بنفسك.

الـ "s" السحرية في الأفعال

في الإنجليزي، لما تتكلم عن شخص تالت (he / she / it) في المضارع، الفعل بياخد "s" في الآخر. خلي بالك من الأمثلة دي من المحادثة:

  • "I work""He works" (لأنه بيضيف s)
  • "I rest""He rests" (s بتنضاف في الآخر)
  • "I study""She studies" (لأن y بتتحول لـ ies)

ده قاعدة مهمة جداً. لو بتتكلم عن نفسك (I)، مش بتضيف s. لو بتتكلم عن حد تالت (he / she)، بتضيف s دايماً.

أيام الأسبوع والإجازة

توم بيقول: "I work on weekdays. I rest on Saturday and Sunday." يعني هو بيشتغل من الإتنين للجمعة (weekdays)، وبياخد إجازة السبت والأحد (the weekend). ده نمط شائع جداً في الشغل، وفيه ناس تانية زي إيما بتدرس كل يوم.

إزاي ترد على السؤال

لما حد يسألك "What do you do?"، تقدر ترد بأي جملة من دول:

  • "I'm a teacher." — أنا مدرس
  • "I work in a hospital." — أنا بشتغل في مستشفى
  • "I study English." — أنا بدرس إنجليزي

ولما حد يسألك "Do you work every day?"، الإجابة بتبقى "Yes, I do" أو "No, I don't"، وبعدها ممكن تضيف معلومة زيادة زي ما توم عمل.

نصيحة للاستماع

أول ما تبدأ تسمع، ركز على المهنة (doctor, student, teacher) عشان تفهم كل واحد بيعمل إيه. بعدين ركز على الأفعال عشان تفهم بيعمل ده امتى. مش لازم تمسك كل كلمة — المهم إنك تفهم الفكرة العامة الأول، وبعدين ترجع تسمع تاني لو عايز التفاصيل.

Tom and Emma meet at a coffee shop and talk about their work and study.

  1. E
Emma Hi Tom! What do you do?
  2. T
Tom Hi Emma! I'm a doctor. I work in a hospital.
  3. E
Emma Oh, nice! Do you work every day?
  4. T
Tom No, I don't. I work on weekdays. I rest on Saturday and Sunday.
  5. E
Emma That's good. I study every day. I'm a student.
  6. T
Tom Cool! What do you study?
  7. E
Emma I study English. I want to be a teacher.

In this lesson, we practice the -es ending on verbs. When a verb ends in -s, -sh, -ch, -x, or -o, and we add -es for he/she/it, the -es makes a new syllable: the sound /ɪz/ (like "iz" in "is").

Look at these verbs:

  • watchwatches (two syllables: WAT-chiz)
  • teachteaches (two syllables: TEE-chiz)
  • gogoes (one syllable: gohz)
  • dodoes (one syllable: duhz)
  • washwashes (two syllables: WOSH-iz)

To make this sound, put your tongue behind your top teeth. Your voice is ON — you feel vibration in your throat. The "i" is short, like in "it", and the "z" is buzzing.

Compare watch (one syllable) with watches (two syllables). Listen for the extra "iz" at the end!

صوت الـ /ɪz/ في آخر الأفعال

في الدرس ده، هنركز على صوت واحد بس: الصوت اللي بييجي في آخر أفعال معينة لما بنضيفلها -es. القاعدة بسيطة: لو الفعل بينتهي بحرف s أو sh أو ch أو x أو o، وضمير الفاعل هو he أو she أو it (يعني الغائب)، بنضيف -es مش -s لوحدها.

  • watchwatches (بقى فيها مقطعين: WAT-chiz) — زي الجملة "She watches TV every evening"
  • teachteaches (TEE-chiz) — زي الجملة "He teaches English at a school"
  • washwashes (WOSH-iz)

When a verb ends in -s, -sh, -ch, -x, or -o, the -es ending for he/she/it makes a new syllable: /ɪz/. Put your tongue behind your top teeth. Your voice is ON. The 'i' is short like in 'it'. The 'z' is buzzing.

First, listen to a model conversation. Then repeat the key sentences. Finally, have your own conversation with the AI.

What do you do?

الجملة دي معناها "إنت بتشتغل إيه؟" أو "إنت بتدرس إيه؟". في الإنجليزي بنستخدم نفس السؤال للاتنين. خلي بالك: حتى لو لسه بتدرس ومش بتشتغل، تقدر تقول I'm a student (أنا طالب أو طالبة).

إزاي تعرّف بنفسك

عشان تقول مين إنت، بنستخدم I'm (اختصار لـ I am) + الوظيفة أو الحالة. مثلاً:

  • I'm a student — أنا طالب/طالبة
  • I'm a teacher — أنا مدرّس/مدرّسة
  • I'm a doctor — أنا دكتور/دكتورة

ولما تحب تقول بتدرس إيه بالظبط، بنستخدم I study + المادة أو اللغة:

  • I study English — أنا بدرس إنجليزي
  • I study math — أنا بدرس رياضة
  • I study at a school in the city — أنا بدرس في مدرسة في المدينة

أسئلة تانية تكمّل المحادثة

بعد ما تسأل What do you do?,ممكن تسأل أسئلة زيادة عشان المحادثة تفضل شغّالة:

  • Where do you study? (بتدرس فين؟) — هنا where بتدور على المكان.
  • Do you study every day? (بتدرس كل يوم؟) — هنا do بتسأل سؤال إجابته yes أو no.

(Jobs)

كل الكلمات دي أسماء (nouns) بتوصف الشخص ووظيفته، وبنحط قبلها a لما نتكلم عن شخص واحد:

  • teacher = المُدرِّس أو المُدرِّسة (اللي بيعلّم في المدرسة)
  • student = الطالب أو الطالبة (اللي بيتعلم في المدرسة)
