Useful phrases at the train station

When you go to a train station, you need some key phrases. The ticket office is the place where you buy tickets. The clerk asks questions, and you answer them. Be polite. Use 'please' and 'thank you'.

'Single' is a one-way ticket. 'Return' is a round-trip ticket. The platform is the area where you wait for your train. Look at the big board above the platforms to find your platform number.

إزاي تشتري تذكرة من محطة القطر

تخيل إنك رايح محطة القطر في إنجلترا وعايز تشتري تذكرة. الموقف ده بسيط بس محتاج شوية كلمات إنجليزي عشان تعدّيه بسلاسة. في الخطوات الجاية هتسمع محادثة قصيرة بين موظف المحطة (Emma) وراكب (Tom)، وبعدين هتتدرب على نفس الجمل بنفسك.

الجمل اللي هتحتاجها في الموقف

  • "Good morning. Can I help you?" — دي الجملة اللي الموظف دايماً بيقولها لما تروح الشباك. بردّ عليها بالوجهة بتاعتك.
  • "Yes, one ticket to [المكان], please." — يعني "أيوا، تذكرة واحدة لـ[المدينة] من فضلك." لاحظ إن كلمة please مهمة جداً عشان الأدب في الثقافة الإنجليزية.
  • "Single or return?" — الموظف بيسألك: تذكرة رايحة بس (single) ولا رايحة وجاية (return)؟ كلمة return هنا معناها تذكرة ذهاب وعودة، مش الرجوع الحرفي.
  • "That is 35 pounds. Platform 4." — الموظف بيقولك السعر ورقم الرصيف اللي تركب منه. تقدر تقول Here you go أو Thank you لما تدفع.
  • "Thank you very much." — جملة أساسية بعد ما تخلص، لأن الشكر مهم في التعاملات.

قواعد لغوية بسيطة

لما تطلب تذكرة، بنستخدم الصيغة "one ticket to + اسم المدينة":

  • One ticket to Bristol, please.
  • One ticket to Manchester, please.

كلمة platform معناها رصيف القطر، وده المكان اللي بتستنى فيه القطر. هتلاقي رقمه مكتوب على الشاشة الكبيرة فوق الرصيف.

نصيحة عملية

الشباك بيقفل بسرعة في المحطات الإنجليزية، فجهّز جملتك قبل ما توصل. قول في راسك: I want one ticket to [المدينة], please. Single or return? Return, please. كده هتبان واثق ومنظّم، والموظف هيفهمك من أول مرة.

في الدرس ده هتلاقي نفسك في محطة قطار في لندن الصبح، وتحديدًا الساعة 11. Tom مسافر وعايز يشتري تذكرة لمدينة Manchester، و Emma هي الموظفة اللي شغالة في شباك التذاكر. الحوار قصير بس فيه كلمات وعبارات هتحتاجها في أي محطة أو مطار أو حتى مطعم.

عبارات الخدمة والطلب بأدب

أول جملة هتسمعها هي اللي بيقولها أي موظف لما تروحله: Where can I help you? يعني «أقدر أساعدك في إيه؟» و Tom بيرد بأسلوب مهذب جدًا وبيقول I'd like a ticket to Manchester, please. لاحظ إنه ما قالش I want، قال I'd like وده أهدى وألطف في التعامل. الـ I'd دي اختصار لـ I would، وهي طريقة طبيعية جدًا في الإنجليزي لما تطلب حاجة. لو عايز تستخدمها في حياتك اليومية، قول مثلاً: I'd like a coffee, please لو في كافيه، أو I'd like the menu, please لو في مطعم.

كلمات لازم تعرفها في السفر

في تلت كلمات أساسية هنا لازم تحفظهم:

  • Single = تذكرة من غير رجوع (ذهاب بس)

لما Emma سألت Single or return?، Tom قال Return لأنه جاي يوم الأحد. لاحظ تعبير I come back on Sunday — هنا استخدم المضارع البسيط مش المستقبل، عشان بيتكلم عن خطة ثابتة ومعروفة مسبقًا.

الفلوس والوقت

Tom دفع 50 جنيه، والتذكرة بـ 48 جنيه، فالباقي بقى جنيهين. Emma قالت Your change is 2 pounds يعني «الباقي بتاعك جنيهين.» وكمان هتسمع وقت القطر: The 3:15 train يعني قطار الساعة 3 و ربع. والجملة المهمة: The train leaves from platform 7 — الفعل leaves هنا بياخد s لأن الفاعل the train مفرد، وده قانون مهم في الإنجليزي.

The /eɪ/ sound: 'ay' as in day

The /eɪ/ sound is a long vowel. You hear it in many travel words like train, station, and plane. To make this sound, open your mouth wide first. Put your tongue low in the front of your mouth. Then move your tongue up and back. Your lips move a little, like a small smile. Your voice is on the whole time.

Listen to these common words with the /eɪ/ sound:

Practice the sound. Say 'ay, ay, ay' like you are thinking. Now try the words. Say them slowly, then say them fast. Your mouth and tongue need to move. This sound is very important for travel words like 'train' and 'station'.

النهارده هنتعلم صوت /eɪ/، وده الصوت اللي بنكتبه أحياناً 'ay' زي كلمة day. الصوت ده اسمه long vowel أو diphthong، يعني الصوت بيبدأ من موضع وبيخلص في موضع تاني جوه بقك - مش صوت بسيط زي الـ a العادية.

كلمات كتير في موضوع السفر ليها نفس الصوت:

  • train - القطر
  • plane - الطيارة
  • station - المحطة
  • day - يوم
  • name - اسم
  • way - طريق

جرّب كده: قول 'ay, ay, ay' كأنك بتفكر في حاجة. بعدين جرب الكلمات. قولهم ببطء الأول، بعدين زوّد سرعتك شوية شوية. لازم بقك ولسانك يتحركوا عشان الصوت يبان واضح.

نصيحة مهمة للمتعلم العربي: اللي بيتكلم عربي أحياناً بيختلط عليه الصوت ده مع صوت الـ /e/ القصير في كلمة bed. الفرق إن /eɪ/ أطول وفيه حركة للسان. لما تقول train متقولهاش زي 'tren' - لازم تقول 'trAYn' والصوت يبقى في الآخر. كمان خلّي بالك من station - الصوت بييجي في النص: 'stAY-shun'.

نصيحة كمان: لما تقول train أو station أو plane في جملة كاملة، الصوت ده غالباً بيبقى في أول الكلمة أو في نصها. تعلّم الصوت ده كويس لأنه هيساعدك تنطق كلمات السفر كلها صح. اسمع للموديل كويس في الدرس، وبعدين كرّر وراه كذا مرة.

Strategy Box: Skimming

Skimming is a reading strategy. When you skim, you read quickly. You do not stop on every word. You look for the main idea. You ask yourself: What is this text about? Skimming is good when you don't need every detail. You only need the big picture.

Key words to know

Before you read, learn these words:

  • train — a vehicle that goes on tracks
  • station — a place where trains stop
  • platform — the area where you wait
  • arrive — to get to a place

Read the short article. First, skim for the main idea. Then read again for details.

في الدرس ده هنتعلم حاجة مهمة جداً اسمها القراءة السريعة أو Skimming، ودي من أهم استراتيجيات القراءة اللي لازم تعرفها من أول ما تبدأ تتعلم إنجليزي.

يعني إيه Skimming؟

الـ Skimming يعني إنك تقرأ النص بسرعة عشان تاخد الفكرة العامة بس، من غير ما تقف على كل كلمة أو تفهم كل تفصيلة. فكّر فيها كده: لما بتبص على صورة من بعيد، بتشوف الشكل العام قبل ما تلاحظ الألوان والتفاصيل الصغيرة. كده بالظبط الـ skimming.

لما بتعمل skim، إنت بتسأل نفسك سؤال واحد بس: "النص ده بيتكلم عن إيه بشكل عام؟" مش محتاج تفهم كل جملة، بس محتاج تحس بالموضوع.

إمتى تستخدمها؟

  • لما يكون عندك وقت قليل ومحتاج تفهم الموضوع بسرعة
  • لما عايز تعرف إذا كان النص ده مفيد ليك ولا لأ
  • قبل ما تقرأ بالتفصيل، عشان تاخد فكرة أولية وتجهز دماغك

الكلمات اللي هتحتاجها قبل ما تقرأ

  • train — القطر أو الترين، المركبة اللي بتمشي على القضبان
  • station — المحطة، المكان اللي الترينات بتوقف فيه
  • platform — الرصيف أو البلاتفورم، المكان اللي بتقف عليه مستني الترين
  • arrive — يوصل، يعني إنك توصل لمكان معين

نصيحة عملية

أول ما تشوف النص اللي تحت، خد نفس عميق واقرا مرة واحدة بسرعة زي ما قلتلك. ركز على الكلمات المفتاحية زي الأسماء والأفعال المهمة. بعد كده ارجع اقرا تاني مرة بهدوء عشان تفهم كل التفاصيل. الطريقة دي هتساعدك في أي نص تقراه بعد كده.

القراءة دي عن رحلة قطار، والشخصية اسمها آنا من إسبانيا، وهي بتوصفلنا رحلتها من مدريد لبرشلونة في نهاية الأسبوع اللي فاتت.

إزاي تقرأ النص صح فيه ٣ طرق للقراءة المفيدة:

  • Skim (القفزة السريعة): إنك تعدي على النص كله بسرعة عشان تفهم الفكرة العامة بس، من غير ما تقف عند كل كلمة.
  • Scan (البحث): إنك تدور على معلومة معينة بس، زي سعر التذكرة أو وقت الوصول.
  • Read for detail (قراءة بتفاصيل): إنك تقرأ بهدوء وتفهم كل كلمة وكل رقم في النص.

نصيحة: ابدأ بالـ skim عشان تفهم الموضوع، بعدين اقرأ بتفاصيل عشان تستوعب كل حاجة وتعرف تحل الأسئلة اللي بعدها.

القواعد المهمة في النص النص بيستخدم زمنين رئيسيين:

الماضي البسيط (Past Simple): بيتكلم عن حاجة حصلت في الماضي خلاص وانتهت. مع الأفعال المنتظمة بنضيف ed في الآخر، زي arrived (وصل) و liked (احب). مع الأفعال الشاذة بنستخدم الشكل التاني، زي took (أخد) من take، و left (انطلق) من leave، و sat (قعد) من sit، و read (قرأ).

الحاضر البسيط (Present Simple): بيتكلم عن الحاجات اللي بنعملها عادةً أو الحاجات اللي بنحبها دلوقتي. زي جملة I like trains (أنا بحب القطارات) و I want to take the train (أنا عايز أركب القطر).

Speak like a traveler

When you buy a ticket, you need to be clear and polite. Here are useful sentences:

Sentence When to use

Use 'I'd like' to be polite. It means the same as 'I want', but it sounds more friendly. Smile when you speak. Look at the clerk. Speak clearly and not too fast. Speak loud enough for the clerk to hear you. Wait for the answer, then say thank you.

الدرس ده عن إيه؟

تخيل إنك واقف قدام شباك التذاكر في محطة قطار في إنجلترا وعايز تشتري تذكرة. الدرس ده بيعلمك بالظبط الجمل اللي هتقولها للموظف. خلينا نمشي على الحوار خطوة خطوة ونتعلم كل جملة.

الجملة الأولى: "Good morning. I'd like a ticket to York, please."

هنا بنستخدم "I'd like" وده اختصار لـ "I would like"، ومعناها "عايز" أو "أريد". بس "I'd like" ألبق وأحسن بكتير من "I want". لما تضيف "please" في الآخر، الكلام بيبقى رسمي وودود. في المحطات الإنجليزية، الموظف دايمًا بيتوقع منك إنك تبدأ بالتحية وبعدين تطلب اللي عايزه. جملة زي "I'd like a ticket to London, please" بتفرق جدًا.

سؤال الموظف: "Single or return?"

ده سؤال لازم تعرف إجابته:

  • "Single" = تذكرة رايح بس (one-way)
  • "Return" = تذكرة ذهاب وعودة (round-trip)

لما الموظف يسألك، الإجابة القصيرة والمهذبة هي: "Return, please." أو "Single, please." كده وبس.

السعر والوقت: "That is 42 pounds. The train leaves at 2:30 from platform 5."

  • "That is 42 pounds" = السعر 42 جنيه إسترليني. العملة في إنجلترا هي الباوند (£).
  • "The train leaves at 2:30" = القطار بيمشي الساعة 2:30.
  • "From platform 5" = من رصيف رقم 5. الرصيف في المحطة اسمه platform.

لو عايز تسأل عن السعر، تقدر تقول: "How much is the ticket to Manchester?"

الجملة الأخيرة: "Thank you very much."

دي طريقة مهذبة جدًا تقول بيها شكرًا. ممكن كمان تقول "Thank you" لوحدها، لكن "Thank you very much" بتدي انطباع إنك إنسان محترم وبيهتم بالكلام.

نصايح مهمة عشان الكلام يطلع طبيعي:

  • ابتسم لما بتكلم الموظف.
  • بص في عينيه (Look at the clerk).
  • اتكلم بوضوح وماتتكلمش بسرعة.
  • استخدم "I'd like" بدل "I want" عشان تبان مؤدب.

A model postcard

Read this postcard. It is from a friend on a train trip:

Dear Maria, I am in Paris! The train trip was great. I arrived at 4 o'clock. The hotel is small but nice. Tomorrow I visit the Eiffel Tower. The weather is sunny. Love, Anna

A postcard is a short message. People send postcards from trips to family and friends. A postcard usually has: a greeting (Dear + name), where you are, what time you arrived, what the weather is like, what you want to do tomorrow, and a closing (Love, + name).

Using capital letters

A postcard uses capital letters in special places:

  • The first word of a sentence: 'Dear', 'I', 'Tomorrow', 'The', 'Love'
  • Names of people: 'Maria', 'Anna'
  • Names of places: 'Paris', 'Eiffel Tower'

Capital letters tell the reader two things: a new sentence starts, or this is a special name. Look at the model. Every sentence starts with a capital letter. Cities and names start with capital letters too.

اكتب بوست كارد بنفسك – شرح كامل

في الجزء ده من الدرس هنتعلم إزاي نكتب postcard (بوست كارد)، يعني كارت صغير بتبعته لأصحابك أو عيلتك لما تكون في رحلة. الكارت ده بيبقى قصير ومباشر، بس لازم يكون فيه حاجات معينة عشان يبقى شكله صح وأكتر منظّم.

تركيب البوست كارد

البوست كارد عادةً بيبقى فيه ست حاجات أساسية، ودول اللي بيفرّقوه عن أي رسالة تانية:

  • Greeting (التحية): وبتبتدي دايمًا بكلمة Dear وبعدها اسم الشخص، مثلًا "Dear Maria".
  • Where you are (أنت فين دلوقتي): بتكتب المكان اللي أنت فيه، زي ما Anna كتبت "I am in Paris".
  • What time you arrived (وصلت الساعة كام): بتدّيني معلومة عن الوقت، زي "I arrived at 4 o'clock".
  • What the weather is like (الجو عامل إزاي): بتوصف الطقس بكلمة أو اتنين، زي "The weather is sunny".
  • What you want to do tomorrow (هتعمل إيه بُكره): بتقول خططك لليوم اللي جاي، زي "Tomorrow I visit the Eiffel Tower".
  • Closing (الخاتمة): وبتنهي الرسالة بكلمة Love وبعدها اسمك، زي "Love, Anna".

قواعد الـ Capital Letters (الحروف الكبيرة)

في اللغة الإنجليزية، في أماكن معينة لازم الكلمة تبدأ بحرف كبير. ودول التلات حاجات الأساسية:

  • أول كلمة في أي جملة، زي "Dear" و "I" و "Tomorrow" و "The" و "Love".
  • أسماء الناس، زي Maria و Anna.
  • أسماء الأماكن والمدن والمعالم، زي Paris و Eiffel Tower.

Capital letters بتعمل وظيفتين مهمين: بتقول للقارئ إن جملة جديدة بدأت، أو بتوضّح إن الكلمة دي اسم خاص لشخص أو مكان.

مثال كامل من الموديل:

لما تبص على رسالة Anna، هتلاقي كل جملة بدأت بحرف كبير – Dear و I و The و Tomorrow و Love. وكمان Maria و Paris و Eiffel Tower و Anna كلها أسماء خاصة وبدأت بحرف كبير. لما تكتب بوست كارد بتاعك، حاول تتبع نفس الخطوات دي وتحافظ على قواعد الحروف الكبيرة عشان رسالتك تطلع شكلها مظبوط.

Strategy: Using capital letters. In a postcard, use a capital letter for: 1) the first word of each sentence, 2) names of people, 3) names of places (cities, buildings, countries).
