Welcome to the Unit 1 Review! In this final section we look back at the two big ideas from the unit: sports vocabulary and the present simple with adverbs of frequency.
First, let's review sports vocabulary. In the unit you met nine sports: football, tennis, swimming, running, cycling, basketball, volleyball, yoga, badminton. Each sport goes with a different verb. Use play with ball and team games, go with sports ending in -ing, and do with yoga and gymnastics. Here is a quick guide:
Next, we reviewed the present simple for habits and routines. Use it for things you do every week or every day: She plays football on Saturdays. Add -s to the verb with he / she / it: He plays, She swims, It goes.
Adverbs of frequency tell us how often we do something. Here is the order, from 100% to 0%:
Adverb
Meaning
Example
always
100%
I always play football on Friday.
usually
about 80%
She usually goes swimming.
often
about 60%
We often watch tennis.
sometimes
about 30%
He sometimes cycles to school.
rarely
about 10%
They rarely play badminton.
never
0%
I never do yoga.
Place the adverb before the main verb (I usually play) but after the verb to be (She is always late).
Your writing task: Write a short blog post (60–80 words) titled "My Favourite Sport". Say what sport you play, who you play with, where you play, and how often you play it. Use the present simple and at least three adverbs of frequency.
Using capital letters — In English, every sentence starts with a capital letter, and so do the names of people, cities, days of the week and months. Check your blog for capitals before you finish.
مراجعة الوحدة الأولى: الرياضة والروتين الأسبوعي
يا أهلاً بيك في آخر جزء من الوحدة الأولى! هنا هنعمل review سريع لكل اللي اتعلمته، وهنجهز نفسك للمهمة الكتابية اللي جاية.
أسماء الرياضة (Sports Vocabulary)
اتعرفت في الوحدة على تسعة أنواع رياضة، وكل نوع ليه verb معين بيفتح معاه. القاعدة بسيطة:
play مع الرياضات اللي فيها كرة أو فريق، زي football و tennis و basketball و badminton و volleyball . بتقول: "I play football."
go مع الرياضات اللي بتخلص بـ -ing، زي swimming و running و cycling. بتقول: "I go running."
do مع yoga و gymnastics بس. بتقول: "I do yoga."
الـ Present Simple للروتين اليومي
الـ present simple ده الـ tense اللي بنستخدمه لما نتكلم عن عادات بتتكرر كل أسبوع أو كل يوم. أهم قاعدة فيه إنك بتضيف -s للـ verb لما الفاعل يكون he أو she أو it:
"She plays football on Saturdays."
"He swims every morning."
"He goes cycling on weekends."
لاحظ إن في "He swims" الـ s بتتنطق زي z، وفي "He goes" بقت goes مش go.
ظروف التكرار (Adverbs of Frequency)
دي كلمات بتقول لنا قد إيه بنعمل الحاجة. ترتيبها من 100% لـ 0%:
always = 100% (دايماً) - "I always play football on Friday."
usually ≈ 80% (عادةً) - "She usually goes swimming."
often ≈ 60% (كثير) - "We often watch tennis."
sometimes ≈ 30% (أحياناً) - "He sometimes cycles to school."
rarely ≈ 10% (نادراً) - "They rarely play badminton."
never = 0% (أبداً) - "I never do yoga."
مكان الـ Adverb في الجملة
دي قاعدة مهمة جداً: حط الـ adverb قبل الـ main verb:
"I usually play tennis."
"She often swims."
لكن لو الجملة فيها to be (am / is / are)، حط الـ adverb بعدها:
"She is always late."
"They are never bored."
المهمة الكتابية: "My Favourite Sport"
دلوقتي وقت الكتابة! اكتب blog post قصير من 60 لـ 80 كلمة بعنوان "My Favourite Sport". لازم تقول فيه:
إيه الرياضة اللي بتلعبها أو بتحبها
مين بتلعب معاه أو بتشوفها معاه
فين بتلعب أو بتتمرن
قد إيه بتلعبها (بكام adverb)
لازم تستخدم present simple وعلى الأقل 3 adverbs of frequency. وكمان متنساش الـ capital letters في أول كل جملة وفي أسماء الأيام والشهور والمدن.
جرب كروت المراجعة اللي تحت الأول عشان تثبّت القواعد، وبعدين ابدأ اكتب وورّيني شطارتك!

PREPARE — Gather your ideas. Before you write, think about your favourite sport. Answer these four questions in English (UK) with short notes:
What is your favourite sport?
How often do you play it? (Use: always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never)
Who do you play with?
Where do you play?
Your notes will help you write the blog.
WRITE — Your blog post. Use your notes to write 60–80 words. Write 3 or 4 short paragraphs. Remember to:
Start with a capital letter on every sentence.
Use the present simple: I play, I go, I do, He plays, She goes.
Use at least three adverbs of frequency.
Give your blog a title in capital letters, for example: MY FAVOURITE SPORT.
REVIEW — Check your writing. Read your blog one more time. Tick each point when you are sure:
[ ] Every sentence starts with a capital letter.
[ ] Days, months and names have capital letters.
[ ] The verbs are correct (he / she / it + -s).
[ ] The adverbs of frequency are in the right place (before the main verb).
[ ] I used at least three different adverbs of frequency.
If something is wrong, change it. Then your blog is ready!
