In English, to talk about feelings we use the verb be with an adjective. This is a key grammar point at A2 level. The verb be is special because it has three forms in the present tense: am, is, and are. We use a different form depending on the subject (the person or thing we are talking about).
Positive: Subject + be + adjective
Subject
be
Adjective
Example
I
am
happy
I amhappy.
You
are
happy
You arehappy.
He / She / It
is
happy
She ishappy.
We
are
happy
We arehappy.
They
are
happy
They arehappy.
Look at the table. With I, we use am. With he, she, it, we use is. With you, we, they, we use are. This pattern is the same with all adjectives, not just feeling words. For example, 'I am tall' and 'They are tall' use the same rule.
Negative: Subject + be + not + adjective
I am notsad.
She is notangry.
They are nottired.
In speaking, we often use short forms (contractions): I'm not, she isn't, they aren't.
Questions: Be + subject + adjective?
Are you happy? — Yes, I am. / No, I am not.
Is she tired? — Yes, she is. / No, she is not.
Am I late? — Yes, you are.
To make a question, we put the form of be before the subject. The answers are usually short: 'Yes, I am' or 'No, I'm not'.
Quick rules:
I → am
He / She / It → is
You / We / They → are
Practice these rules in the exercises below.
إزاي تتكلم عن مشاعرك بالإنجليزي
لما تحب تقول في الإنجليزي إنك حاسس بإحساس معين، أو عايز تصف إحساس حد تاني، القاعدة بسيطة جداً: بنستخدم فعل be ومعاه adjective (صفة). يعني مش بنستخدم فعل، بنستخدم صفة بتصف الحالة.
الفعل be ليه 3 صور مختلفة في المضارع
I (أنا) → am
He / She / It (هو / هي) → is
You / We / They (أنت / إحنا / هم) → are
الجملة المثبتة (Positive)
الصيغة الأساسية هي: Subject + be + adjective
I am happy today. = أنا مبسوط النهاردة.
She is very tired. = هي تعبانة قوي.
الجملة المنفية (Negative)
بنحط كلمة not بعد الـ be على طول:
I am not sad. = أنا مش زعلان.
She is not angry. = هي مش زعلانة.
They are not tired. = هم مش تعبانين.
وفي الكلام العادي بيحبوا يستخدموا الاختصارات زي I'm not و she isn't و they aren't عشان الكلام يبقى أسرع.
السؤال (Question)
عشان نسأل عن الإحساس، بننقل الـ be قبل الـ subject:
Are you happy? (أنت مبسوط؟) — الإجابة: Yes, I am. أو No, I am not.
Is she tired? (هي تعبانة؟) — الإجابة: Yes, she is. أو No, she is not.
Am I late? (أنا متأخر؟) — الإجابة: Yes, you are.
لاحظ إن الإجابة بتبقى قصيرة جداً، مش محتاج تعيد الجملة كاملة.
في التمارين اللي جاية، خلي بالك من:
الـ subject عشان تختار الصورة الصح من be (am ولا is ولا are).
مكان الـ be في السؤال، لأنه بيجي قبل الـ subject مش بعدها.
النفي بيبقى بـ not بعد الـ be.
نصيحة: لما تشوف الـ I، حط بعدها am على طول. لما تشوف He أو She أو It، حط is. ولما تشوف You أو We أو They، حط are. كده هتكون ماشي صح!
I am happy today.
Notice: 'I' uses 'am'. 'Happy' is the adjective.
She is very tired.
Notice: 'She' uses 'is'. 'Tired' is the adjective.

Welcome to the listening section! You will hear a short conversation between two friends, Emma and Tom, who meet in the morning before work. They ask each other how they feel and have a small chat about it.
Prediction question: Before you listen, think about your own morning. How do you feel when you wake up? Are you tired, hungry, or happy? Hold your answer in your head — you will compare it with the speakers.
Listening to English is a great way to learn real, everyday English. In this conversation, you will hear the grammar from Section 2 in action. You will hear 'I'm tired', 'Are you hungry?', and other useful phrases. Listen carefully for the feeling words you learned in Section 1.
As you listen:
First, listen for the gist — the main idea. How does Tom feel at the start of the conversation?
Then listen for specific information — answers to questions like: Is Emma thirsty? Is Tom hungry? Why is Emma happy?
Finally, listen for detail — exact words and small information. What day of the week is it?
Don't worry if you don't catch every word. Focus on the feeling words. You can listen more than once if you need to. The dialogue is short, so try to catch as much as you can.
أحلى حاجة في اللغات إنها بتتقال في سياق حقيقي. في الـ listening ده هتسمع Emma و Tom بيتكلموا الصبح، وهما بيسألوا بعض عن إحساسهم. تعالى نشوف إيه اللي ممكن نتعلمه من المحادثة دي.
الكلمات والعبارات الأساسية
"How are you this morning?" - إزيك الصبح؟ دي جملة greeting بنستخدمها لما نشوف حد بدري.
"I'm tired!" - أنا تعبان. الـ 'm اختصار لـ am، و tired معناها تعبان أو مش قادر أصحى.
"I went to bed very late." - أنا نمت متأخر جدًا. هنا بنستخدم الماضي عشان نحكي عن إمبارح.
"Are you hungry too?" - إنت جعان كمان؟ سؤال بـ are you، والإجابة بتيجي بـ yes أو no.
"Yes, I am really hungry. I want breakfast." - أيوه أنا جعان جدًا، عايز فطار. breakfast يعني أكل الصبح.
"Me too. I am thirsty as well." - أنا كمان، أنا عطشان برضو.
"Are you happy today?" - إنت مبسوط النهارده؟
القواعد المهمة في المحادثة
1. السؤال بـ Are you + صفة
Emma بتسأل Tom: "Are you hungry too?" و "Are you happy today?". ده سؤال بيجي بإجابة yes أو no. الإجابة القصيرة بتبقى "Yes, I am" أو "No, I'm not". حاول دايمًا ترد بالإجابة القصيرة عشان الكلام يبقى طبيعي.
2. التعبير عن الإحساس بـ I am + صفة
كل كلمات الإحساس في الدرس بتتكوّن بنفس الطريقة:
I am tired (أنا تعبان)
I am hungry (أنا جعان)
I am thirsty (أنا عطشان)
I am happy (أنا مبسوط)
3. أدوات زيادة القوة (Intensifiers)
really - قبل الصفة مباشرة: "I am really hungry"
very - قبل الصفة برضو: "very late"
الاتنين بيعملوا نفس الشغل، فممكن تستخدم أي واحد فيهم.
4. كلمات "كمان" في الإنجليزي
too - في آخر الجملة: "Are you hungry too?"
as well - في الآخر برضو: "I am thirsty as well"
Me too - جملة قصيرة لما توافق على حاجة حد قالها
5. الزمن الماضي البسيط (Past Simple)
Tom قال "I went to bed very late."

Today we look at the /h/ sound. This is a very common sound in English, and you can hear it at the start of many feeling words: happy, hungry, horrible. It is also in common words like hello, hot, home, and have.
How to make /h/:
Open your mouth a little — just a small opening.
Relax your tongue in the middle of your mouth. Do not touch your teeth or the roof of your mouth.
Push a small breath of air from your throat.
/h/ is voiceless — your voice box does not vibrate. Touch your throat: you should feel no movement.
The sound is very short — like a small, soft breath before a vowel.
Compare with other sounds:
In Arabic, ح is a strong /h/. The English /h/ is softer and uses less voice.
/h/ is not the same as /b/, /p/, or /k/. It is just a breath of air with no voice.
/h/ usually comes at the start of a syllable in English. It cannot be at the end of a word.

Where is /h/?

hungry
start
hot

horrible

When you say words like 'happy' and 'hungry', make sure the /h/ is clear. Don't drop the /h/ at the start of the word. In the exercises, you will listen to words and say them yourself.
To make /h/: open your mouth a little, relax your tongue, and push a small breath of air from your throat. Do not use your voice — touch your throat to check. Try: hhhh. Now add a vowel after: 'ha... he... hi... ho... hu'. The /h/ is short, like a small breath before the vowel.
Required
Listen. Which word do you hear?
hat
cat
Required
Say the word 'happy'. Start with a clear /h/ sound, like a small breath.
happy
Required
Say the word 'hungry'. Start with a clear /h/ sound, then 'un'.
hungry
Required
Say the word 'horrible'. Start with a clear /h/ sound, then 'orrible'.
horrible

Welcome to the reading section. Today we will read a short message from a friend called Sam. Sam writes about his day and how he feels at different times. This is a good chance to see the grammar from Section 2 in real writing.
Strategy box: Skimming
When you skim, you read quickly to get the main idea. Do not stop on every word or look up every unknown word in the dictionary. Instead:
Read the first sentence to find the topic.
Read the last sentence to find the conclusion.
Look at any bold words, titles, or names.
Ask yourself: 'What is this text about? How does the writer feel?'
After skimming, you can read more carefully for detail. This two-step process (skim first, then read carefully) helps you understand faster.
Key words for this reading:
mood = how you feel (a noun)
terrible = very bad (an adjective)
exhausted = very, very tired (an adjective)
relaxed = calm and not worried (an adjective)
These four words are important for the text. When you see them, try to guess their meaning from the sentence around them. For example, 'mood' comes from the verb 'feel' — so it must be a noun for a feeling.
Reading task:
First, skim the message to find the main idea. Then read again to find the answers to the questions. The questions are about Sam's feelings at different times of the day: morning, work, and evening. Try to find each answer in the text.
لما تقول "I'm in a good mood"، يعني مزاجك حلو.
A message from Sam
Hey! This is Sam. I'm writing from my small flat in London. Today is a strange day for me. In the morning, I am very tired because I worked late last night. I am also hungry — I didn't eat breakfast. At work, my boss is angry, so we are all worried. But in the evening, I am happy because I watch my favourite film and eat pizza. Now I am relaxed and ready for bed. How are you today? Tell me your mood!

الكلام عن إحساسك بالإنجليزي
في الدرس ده هنتعلم إزاي نسأل ونجاوب على الأسئلة عن إحساسنا في المحادثات القصيرة واليومية. الفكرة الأساسية بسيطة: بنستخدم be + adjective (فعل يكون + صفة) عشان نوصف إحساسنا.
إزاي تسأل عن الإحساس
أشهر جملة هي How are you? ودي الجملة اللي بنقولها لأي حد لما نقابله. ممكن تضيف today لو عايز تسأل عن يومه بالذات زي How are you today?
كمان ممكن تسأل عن حالة معينة، مثلاً:
Are you hungry? (هل أنت جعان؟)
Are you tired? (هل أنت تعبان؟)
Are you OK? (هل أنت كويس؟)
هنا بنستخدم are + subject + adjective عشان نسأل عن حالة محددة بعينها.
إزاي تجاوب عن إحساسك
الجواب البسيط هو I am + adjective. مثلاً:
I am happy (أنا مبسوط)
I am tired (أنا تعبان)
I am hungry (أنا جعان)
لو عايز تدّي تفصيلة أكتر عن إحساسك، استخدم but عشان تضيف معلومة تانية: I am tired but I am OK (أنا تعبان بس أنا كويس). ده أسلوب مهم جداً في المحادثة.
فيه طريقة تانية وهي I feel + adjective زي:
I feel sad (أنا حاسس بحزن)
I feel great (أنا حاسس إني تمام)
الاتنين صح وبيتقالوا في الحياة اليومية.
إجابة أسئلة الـ Yes/No
لو حد سألك Are you hungry?، ممكن ترد باختصار:
Yes, I am (أيوه)
No, I am not (لأ)
إزاي تبيّن اهتمامك برد فعلك
لما حد يقولك إنه تعبان، ممكن تقول Oh no!. لو قالك إنه مبسوط، تقول Wonderful!. لو هو عنده نفس إحساسك، تقول Me too! (أنا كمان!). لما تكون متفاجئ تقول Really?
ترتيب المحادثة الطبيعية
المحادثة القصيرة في الإنجليزي بتمشي بالترتيب ده:
سلام: Hi! أو Hello!
سؤال عن الحال: How are you today?
جواب وسؤال متبادل: I am happy, thanks. How are you?
سؤال تاني محدد: Are you hungry?
جواب: Yes, I am very hungry
رد فعل مشترك: Me too! Let us eat!
لما تتمرّن، ركّز على الإيقاع مش الكمال. الإنجليزي بيحب الاختصار والكلام الطبيعي. الإجابات القصيرة زي Yes, I am أو Me too! بتفرق جداً وتخلّي الكلام يبان طبيعي.

Welcome! Today we learn how to talk about feelings. In English (UK), we use the verb be (am, is, are) with an adjective to say how we feel inside. For example, 'I am happy' or 'She is tired'. This is one of the most useful patterns in English, and you can use it every day.
Below are eight common feeling words. Each one is an adjective — a word that describes how we feel. We can use these words to talk about ourselves ('I am hungry'), about other people ('He is worried'), and to ask questions ('Are you tired?').
Word
Type
Example
happy
adjective
I am happy today.
sad
adjective
She is sad.
tired
adjective
He is tired.
hungry
adjective
Are you hungry?
thirsty
adjective
I am thirsty.
bored
adjective
They are bored.
angry
adjective
We are angry.
worried
adjective
He is worried.
Read the examples in the last column. Each one uses a form of be before the adjective. In the next section, we will study this grammar point in detail. For now, just meet the words and try to remember them.
In English, we can use these feeling words in two common ways. First, we can use them with the verb be to describe a state: 'I am tired.' Second, we can use them with the verb feel: 'I feel tired.' Both ways are correct. In this lesson, we focus on the first way — be + adjective — because it is the most common.
You will also notice that some feeling words describe positive feelings (like happy), and others describe negative or difficult feelings (like sad, angry, or worried). We can use both kinds in everyday conversation. Try to learn all eight words so you can describe many different feelings.
كلمات التعبير عن المشاعر في الإنجليزي
النهارده هنتعلم تمان كلمات بيقولوا بيهما إحساسك أو حالتك النفسية. كلهم adjectives يعني صفات، وبنستخدمهم مع فعل to be عشان نوصف حالنا في اللحظة دي.
الكلمات وأمثلة عليهم
happy (سعيد): I am happy today.
sad (حزين): She is sad.
tired (متعب): He is tired.
hungry (جائع): Are you hungry?
thirsty (عطشان): I am thirsty.
bored (زهقان): They are bored.
angry (غاضب): We are angry.
worried (قلقان): He is worried.
القاعدة الأساسية: be + adjective
عشان تقول إحساسك، لازم تحط فعل to be (am, is, are) قبل الصفة:
I am happy (أنا سعيد)
She is tired (هي تعبانة)
They are worried (هم قلقانين)
لاحظ إن الصفة مش بتتغير حسب الفاعل - هي اللي بتفضل ثابتة، بس فعل الـ be هو اللي بيتغير.
نوعين من المشاعر
مشاعر حلوة (positive feelings): زي happy.
مشاعر صعبة (negative feelings): زي sad وangry وworried وbored.
الاتنين مهمين في الكلام اليومي.
في طريقتين للاستخدام
الطريقة الأولى (الأساسية): be + adjective
I am hungry.
الطريقة التانية: feel + adjective
I feel hungry.
الاتنين صح، بس إحنا هنركز على الأولى لأنها الأشهر في المحادثات.
إزاي تسأل
ممكن تاخد نفس الجملة وتخليها سؤال:
Are you tired? (إنت تعبان؟)
Is she angry? (هي غضبانة؟)
دلوقتي جرّب تقول كل كلمة بصوت عالي عشان تفتكرها كويس.
