15 cards

In Unit 8, you learned three important things: clothes words, the present continuous, and demonstratives. Now it is time to put them all together in one review.

Clothes are things you wear every day. Look at the words below. Try to say each one out loud.

English العربية
shirt
T-shirt
pants
jeans
dress
skirt
shoes
sneakers
jacket
hat
socks
coat

The present continuous describes what is happening right now. The form is am / is / are + verb + -ing.

  • I am wearing a hat.
  • She is buying shoes.
  • They are looking at jeans.

Demonstratives are small words that point to things. Use this and these for things near you. Use that and those for things far away. This and that are singular (one thing). These and those are plural (many things).

near far
singular this that
plural these those
  • This shirt is nice. (one shirt, near)
  • That dress is red. (one dress, far)
  • These shoes are new. (many shoes, near)
  • Those pants are old. (many pants, far)

Writing task: Write four sentences about what you and your friends are wearing today. Use the present continuous and at least one demonstrative.

Using capital letters (I): Always write the word I with a capital letter. Example: I am wearing this jacket today.

مراجعة الوحدة ٨: هدوم، المضارع المستمر، وأسماء الإشارة

يا أهلاً بيك في مراجعة الوحدة ٨! في الوحدة دي اتعلمت تلات حاجات مهمة جداً في الإنجليزي: كلمات الهدوم، زمن المضارع المستمر، وأسماء الإشارة. خلينا نراجعهم بسرعة مع بعض.

الهدوم (Clothes)

(Present Continuous)

الـ present continuous ده الزمن اللي بنستخدمه لما نحكي عن حاجة بتحصل دلوقتي قدام عينك. القاعدة بسيطة جداً: am / is / are + verb + -ing.

  • I am wearing a hat. (أنا لابس قبعة)
  • She is buying shoes. (هي بتشتري أحذية)
  • They are looking at jeans. (هم بيتفرجوا على جينز)

خد بالك من القاعدة:

  • لو الفاعل I → بنستخدم am
  • لو الفاعل he / she / it → بنستخدم is
  • لو الفاعل you / we / they → بنستخدم are

أسماء الإشارة (Demonstratives)

دي كلمات صغيرة بستخدمها عشان أشار لحاجة معينة. ليها قاعدتين سهلتين:

  • لو الحاجة قريبة منك: this للمفرد (حاجة واحدة)، these للجمع (أكتر من حاجة)
  • لو الحاجة بعيدة عنك: that للمفرد، those للجمع

شوف الأمثلة دي:

  • This shirt is nice. (القميص ده حلو - قريب ومفرد)
  • That dress is red. (الفستان ده أحمر - بعيد ومفرد)
  • These shoes are new. (الجزم دي جديدة - قريب وجمع)
  • Those pants are old. (البنطال ده قديم - بعيد وجمع)

التكليف (Writing Task)

PREPARE — Before you write, think about today. What are YOU wearing? What is your friend wearing? Write down three people and their clothes. Useful words: shirt, T-shirt, pants, jeans, dress, skirt, shoes, sneakers, jacket, hat, socks, coat.

WRITE — Now write four sentences. Use the present continuous (am / is / are + verb-ing) and at least one demonstrative (this / that / these / those). Example: I am wearing this blue jacket. My friend Lisa is wearing that red dress. We are buying these new shoes. Those pants look nice. Remember: always write the word I with a capital letter.

REVIEW — Check your writing. 1) Did you use am / is / are + verb-ing in every sentence? 2) Did you use a demonstrative (this, that, these, or those)? 3) Did you write the word I with a capital letter? 4) Did you start each sentence with a capital letter? 5) Did you put a period (.) at the end? If you said YES to all five, great work!

Required

Read the sentence aloud. Listen to your own voice and check: do you hear 'I am wearing this'?

I am wearing this new jacket today.
