We use ordinal numbers to talk about dates. An ordinal number shows the position of something in a list: first, second, third, fourth, fifth...

Most ordinal numbers end in -th (fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, nineth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, thirth). The first three are special: 1st = first, 2nd = second, 3rd = third. Numbers like 21, 22, 23 use the last word only: twenty-first, twenty-second, twenty-third.

To say a date, we say the month, then the ordinal number. We do not say "on" before the month: My birthday is March fifth. / Today is July twenty-first. We can also write it as March 5th or July 21st.

Look at the pattern:

We use is with a date: My birthday is October tenth. The date comes after the month in English.

إزاي تقول تواريخ بالإنجليزي

في الدرس ده هنتعلم إزاي نتكلم عن التواريخ في اللغة الإنجليزية. الحاجة الأساسية اللي لازم تفهمها الأول هي حاجة اسمها الأرقام الترتيبية أو ordinal numbers.

إيه هي الأرقام الترتيبية؟

دي الأرقام اللي بتستخدم لما تحب تقول ترتيب حاجة في مجموعة. بدل ما تقول الرقم عادي زي five، بتقول fifth يعني الخامس. خلينا نشوف أمثلة:

first (الأول) - الرقم 1
second (التاني) - الرقم 2
third (التالت) - الرقم 3
fourth (الرابع) - الرقم 4
fifth (الخامس) - الرقم 5

القاعدة الذهبية

معظم الأرقام الترتيبية بتنتهي بصوت -th، زي fourth و fifth و sixth و seventh و eighth و ninth و tenth.

بس خلّي بالك، الأرقام التلاتة الأولى ليهم شكل خاص ومختلف:

1st = first
2nd = second
3rd = third

الأرقام الكبيرة (من 21 لفوق)

لو الرقم مركب زي 21 أو 22 أو 23، بنحط dash وبنكتب بس آخر كلمة بالشكل الترتيبي. يعني بنقول twenty-first و twenty-second و twenty-third.

إزاي تبني جملة بتاريخ؟

في الإنجليزي الترتيب بيكون: الشهر الأول، وبعدين الرقم الترتيبي. وفي حاجة مهمة جداً، إنك مش بتستخدم كلمة "on" قبل الشهر زي ما بنعمل في العربي.

أمثلة عملية من الدرس:

Today is July twenty-first. (النهارده واحد وعشرين يوليه)

الفخ الشائع اللي لازم تتجنبه

كتير من الناس بيغلطوا ويقولوا حاجة زي "My birthday is March five" - ده غلط تماماً! لازم دايماً تستخدم الرقم الترتيبي مش الرقم العادي مع التواريخ. يعني بنقول March fifth مش "March five".

كمان الفعل اللي بنستخدمه مع التواريخ هو is مش "on". يعني بتقول My birthday is October tenth، مش "My birthday on October tenth".

في التمارين اللي جاية هتلاقي اختيارات وأسئلة fill in the blank و reorder و true/false، كلهم بيهدفوا إنك تتدرب على استخدام الأرقام الترتيبية مع الشهور بالشكل الصحيح.

الهدف من الـ Listening ده

في الـ section دي، هتسمع محادثة قصيرة بين اتنين أصحاب، Emma و Tom، بيتكلموا عن الفصول المفضلة عندهم، وأعياد ميلادهم، والأنشطة اللي بيحبوها. الـ listening ده مصمم عشان يساعدك تربط بين:

I love summer. It's hot and sunny. — هنا بيستخدم فعل love + اسم الفصل، وبعدين بيدّي سبب بـ because أو بـ it's + صفة.
My birthday is July twenty-first. — لاحظ إن التاريخ بيتقال بالترتيب: الشهر الأول، وبعدين اليوم بالـ ordinal number (twenty-first، third، وهكذا).
I swim in the lake with my family. — هنا بيستخدم الفعل في المضارع البسيط I swim عشان يوصف عادة أو حاجة بيعملها بانتظام.

القواعد المهمة في الـ dialogue

Subject pronoun + verb: I love، I swim، I pick. الـ verb مع I في المضارع البسيط بيفضل زي ما هو من غير إضافة s.
It's + adjective: It's hot، It's sunny. الصفات دي بتوصف الجو في الصيف.
Months and dates: January، April، July... واليوم بيتقال بالرقم الترتيبي زي April third أو July twenty-first.

نصيحة للاستماع

أول مرة، ركّز على الفكرة العامة بس: مين بيحب إيه؟ تاني مرة، استمع للأرقام والتواريخ. ماحاولش تكتب كل كلمة، خد اللي تقدر عليه.

بعد ما تخلص الـ listening، جرّب تقول جملة عن نفسك: My favorite season is... because it's... وقول تاريخ ميلادك بالإنجليزي. كده بتطبّق اللي سمعته على طول.

Many ordinal numbers end in the sound /θ/, like the th in "think." This is a special English sound. Your tongue goes between your top and bottom teeth. Air comes out gently. You vibrate your voice (your throat moves) for /ð/ as in "the," but for /θ/ your voice does not vibrate. Try: put your tongue tip between your teeth and blow air softly.

Many ordinals end in -th: fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, twentieth, thirtieth.

Listen carefully. The -th is soft, not a hard 't.' Keep your tongue between your teeth.

صوت الـ /θ/ — الليست معايا!

صوت الـ th الساكتة (اللي بيكتبها /θ/) ده من أصعب الأصوات على اللي بيتكلموا عربي، لإنه ببساطة مش موجود في لغتنا. في درسنا النهارده عن الفصول والـ أرقام الترتيبية، هنلاقي إن كلمات زي fourth و fifth و sixth كلها بتنتهي بنفس الصوت ده.

إزاي بتعمل الصوت ده بفيزيائي؟

مكان اللسان: حط طرف لسانك بين سنانك العلوية والسفلية. مش ورا الأسنان، لأ، بين يعني — شوية بره بقك.
الهوا: سيب الهواء يطلع بهدوء، زي الهمس. ما تضغطش.
الحبال الصوتية: ساكتة تمامًا. الصوت ده اسمه voiceless، يعني من غير اهتزاز.

الفرق بين /θ/ و /ð/

الناس بتتلخبط بين الاتنين:

/θ/ زي think أو fifth: لسانك بين الأسنان، بس الحنجرة ساكتة.
/ð/ زي the أو this: لسانك بين الأسنان برضو، لكن الحنجرة بتتهتز وفيه رنين.

أخطاء شائعة لازم تتجنبها

كتير من المتعلمين بيقولوا fif-t أو six-t بدل ما يخلوا اللسان بين الأسنان. ده بيخلي الصوت يطلع حاد زي الـ /t/ العادية. الصوت الصح لازم يكون ناعم وهوائي. وكمان، ما تقولش fif-s، لإن ده بيشبه صوت الـ /θ/ بس مش هو.

تمرين بسيط

قول جملة كاملة: My birthday is March fifth. ركز على كلمة fifth في الآخر. لسانك بين الأسنان، هوا ناعم، حنجرتك ساكتة. كده إنت بتعمل الصوت صح!

To make /θ/: put your tongue tip BETWEEN your top and bottom teeth. Blow air gently. Do not vibrate your voice. Try saying 'think, fourth, fifth' with your tongue out a little.

لاحظ استخدام because عشان تربط بين السبب والنتيجة، وده بيخلل جملتك أقوى وأوضح.

كمان اتعلمت إزاي تربط نشاط معين بموسم معيّن، زي:

In spring, the flowers bloom.
In summer, I swim in the pool.
In autumn, the leaves fall.
In winter, it snows a lot.

نصيحة للمذاكرة

خد وقت تراجع فيه الـ review cards اللي تحت، وبعدين اكتب في الـ writing task عن موسمك المفضّل. حاول تستخدم على الأقل موسمين، شهرين، وثلاثة أنشطة عشان تثبّت كل حاجة اتعلمتها. كده هتلاقي نفسك بتتكلم عن مواسم السنة بثقة طبيعية!

إزاي تتكلم عن فصول السنة ومعلوماتك الشخصية

في الدرس ده هنتعلم خمس جُمل أساسية تقدر تستخدمها لما حد يسألك عن فصلك المفضل أو يوم ميلادك أو اللي بتحب تعمله في الفصل ده.

أولاً: تقول فصلك المفضل

الجملة النموذجية: My favorite season is... يعني "فصلي المفضل هو...". بعد is بنحط اسم الفصل مفرد، زي spring أو fall أو summer أو winter. مثلاً: "My favorite season is spring." (فصلي المفضل هو الربيع).

ثانياً: تدي سبب ليه بتحب الفصل ده

الجملة: I like... because... يعني "أنا بحب... لأن...". كلمة because هي اللي بتربط السبب بالنتيجة. مثلاً: "I like fall because it's cool." (أنا بحب الخريف لأنه بارد ومنعش). تقدر تقول it's warm أو it's beautiful أو it's fun حسب الفصل.

ثالثاً: تقول شهر ميلادك

الجملة: My birthday is in... يعني "عيد ميلادي في شهر...". دايماً بنستخدم in قبل اسم الشهر. مثلاً: "My birthday is in October." (عيد ميلادي في أكتوبر).

رابعاً: تقول اليوم بالظبط بالأرقام الترتيبية

الجملة: My birthday is [month] [ordinal number]. الأرقام الترتيبية في الإنجليزي ليها قاعدة مهمة: لو الرقم بينتهي بـ one بتبقى first (الأول)، وtwo بتبقى second (التاني)، و three بتبقى third (التالت)، و five بتبقى fifth (الخامس)، و nine بتبقى ninth (التاسع)، و twelve بتبقى twelfth (التاني عشر). الأرقام العشرينية زي twentieth (العشرين) و thirtieth (التلاتين). مثلاً: "My birthday is October fifteenth." (عيد ميلادي خامس عشر أكتوبر).

خامساً: تتكلم عن نشاط بتحبه في فصل معين

الجملة: In [season], I like to... يعني "في [الفصل]، أنا بحب أفعل...". بعد like بنحط to + الفعل في صورته الأساسية. مثلاً: "In fall, I like to have a picnic with my friends." (في الخريف، بحب أعمل بيك نيك مع صحابي). ممكن تقول I like to pick flowers أو I like to drink tea أو أي نشاط تاني.

مثال كامل يجمع الكلام كله:

"My favorite season is spring. I like spring because it's warm. My birthday is in April, on April tenth. In spring, I like to pick flowers in the park."

خد وقتك وجرّب تقول الجمل دي بصوت عالي قبل ما تسجل نفسك. التكرار هو اللي هيخلي الكلام طبيعي وسلس.

الفصل بتاع المواسم والأنشطة اللي بنعملها كل سنة

في الدرس ده هنتعلم الكلمات اللي بنستخدمها لما نتكلم عن المواسم (seasons) والشهور (months) والحاجات الحلوة اللي بنعملها في كل موسم. الكلام ده بسيط، بس مهم جداً عشان تقدر تقول رأيك في الطقس أو تخطط لرحلة مع صحابك.

المواسم الأربعة

في اللغة الإنجليزية عندنا أربع مواسم أساسية:

spring — الربيع، الموسم اللي بعد الشتا، بتيجي فيه الزهور.
summer — الصيف، الموسم الحر.
fall أو autumn — الخريف، الاتنين نفس المعنى. fall بيستخدموها في أمريكا أكتر، وautumn في بريطانيا أكتر.
winter — الشتا، الموسم البارد.

الشهور

السنة فيها 12 شهر، وأمثلة من الدرس:

January — شهر 1 (يناير)، بارد في أمريكا.
July — شهر 7 (يوليو)، حر جداً.

قاعدة مهمة: حرف الجر "in"

في الإنجليزية لما نتكلم عن موسم أو شهر، بنستخدم in قبلها:

in spring = في الربيع
in summer = في الصيف
in July = في يوليو
in January = في يناير

متقولش "on summer" أو "at July" — ده غلط. دايماً بنقول in.

الأنشطة اللي بنعملها

الدرس كمان فيه أفعال وحركات حلوة:

swim = نعوم في المية. مثلاً: I swim in the lake in summer.
ski = نتزحلق على التلج. مثلاً: They ski in the mountains in winter.
pick flowers = نقطف ورد. مثلاً: She picks flowers in spring.
have a picnic = نعمل نزهة ونأكل بره. مثلاً: We have a picnic in the park in fall.

لاحظ هنا إزاي جمعنا فعل + مكان + in + موسم في جملة واحدة بسيطة. ده النمط اللي هتلاقيه كتير في الكلام الإنجليزي. جرّب تقول جملة من عندك باستخدام أي موسم أو شهر من اللي اتعلمتهم!
