Welcome to the Unit 12 Review! In this unit, you learned three important things. Let's look at them one more time.

First, you learned school subjects. These are the classes you study at school. Common subjects are math, English, science, history, art, music, and PE (physical education). You can say things like: 'I have math on Monday.' or 'My favorite subject is art.'

Second, you learned how to talk about ability with can and can't. Use can when you know how to do something. Use can't when you do not know how to do it. For example: 'I can swim.' / 'I can't play the piano.' You can also ask: 'Can you speak English?'

Third, you learned adverbs of frequency. These small words tell us how often we do something. They go before the main verb.

Look at these examples: 'I always eat breakfast.' / 'She sometimes reads at night.' / 'He never watches TV.'

Your writing task: Write 5-7 sentences about your school day. Say what subjects you have, what you can do, and how often you study each subject.

Using commas in lists: When you list three or more things, use commas. Example: 'I have math, English, and science on Monday.'

المواد الدراسية (School Subjects): اتعلمت أسماء المواد اللي بتدرسها في المدرسة زي: math (رياضيات)، English (إنجليزي)، science (علوم)، history (تاريخ)، art (فن)، music (موسيقى)، و PE وده اختصار لـ physical education (تربية رياضية). تقدر تقول مثلاً:

  • I have math on Monday. (عندي رياضيات يوم الإثنين)
  • My favorite subject is art. (مادتي المفضلة هي الفن)

القدرة بـ can و can't: اتعلمت إزاي تتكلم عن الحاجات اللي بتعرف تعملها واللي مش بتعرف تعملها. بنستخدم can لما نعرف نعمل الحاجة، وبنستخدم can't (اللي هي can not) لما مش نعرف نعملها. شوف الأمثلة:

  • I can play the guitar. (أنا أعرف أعزف الجيتار)
  • I can't play the piano. (أنا مش أعرف أعزف البيانو)
  • Can you speak English? (إنت بتعرف تتكلم إنجليزي؟)

ظرف التكرار (Adverbs of Frequency): دي كلمات صغيرة بتقول لنا بنعمل الحاجة قد إيه. الكلمات الأساسية هم:

  • always = دايماً (كل مرة)
  • usually = غالباً (أغلب الوقت)
  • often = كتير (مرات كتير)
  • sometimes = أحياناً (جزء من الوقت)
  • never = أبداً (ولا مرة)

القاعدة المهمة إنهم بييجوا قبل الفعل الرئيسي في الجملة. مثلاً:

  • I always eat breakfast. (أنا دايماً بافطر)
  • She sometimes reads at night. (هي أحياناً بتقرأ بالليل)
  • He never watches TV. (هو عمرو ما بيتفرج على التلفزيون)

المهمة الكتابية (Writing Task): المطلوب منك تكتب من 5 لـ 7 جمل عن يومك في المدرسة. اتكلم عن المواد اللي عندك، وقول بتعرف تعمل إيه، وقول بتدرس كل مادة قد إيه. وافتكر تستخدم الفواصل commas لما تذكر تلات حاجات أو أكتر، زي: 'I have math, English, and science on Monday.' (عندي رياضيات وإنجليزي وعلوم يوم الإثنين).

PREPARE — Before you write, think about your school day. Make a small list: 1) Your favorite school subjects, 2) Three things you can do, 3) How often you study each subject (always, usually, often, sometimes, or never).

WRITE — Now write 5-7 sentences about your school day. Use school subjects, can / can't, and adverbs of frequency. Example: 'I have math, English, and science on Monday. I can speak a little English. I always study math in the morning.'

REVIEW — Check your writing: 1) Did you use commas in your lists? 2) Did you put adverbs of frequency before the main verb? 3) Did you use can or can't correctly? Read your paragraph one more time and listen for any mistakes.
