In your home, you often need to ask a family member to help you. English has polite phrases to ask and to answer. These phrases are short and friendly.

Here are the most common ones:

Can you...? is the most common form in everyday British English. Use it with parents, brothers, sisters and friends. Could you...? sounds a little more formal — it is good for older relatives or for a written note.

After you ask, listen for the answer. Your family member says Sure! or Sorry, I'm busy right now. Either way, you can answer with Thanks! or No problem.

In British homes, people say mum (not mom) and no problem is very common. Add please to make any request sound polite. End with thank you to show good manners. Remember: 'please' can go at the end of the request, but it is more natural in the middle. Can you help me, please? sounds better than Can you please help me? in spoken British English.

صيغ الطلب الأساسية

فيه صيغتين رئيسيتين في الإنجليزي لما تيجي تطلب حاجة:

  • Can you...? — دي أكتر صيغة شائعة في الكلام اليومي في البيت. بتستخدمها مع بابا، ماما، الإخوات، والصحاب. زي ما ليلي قالت: "Can you help me, please?"
  • Could you...? — دي بتتقال لما تحب تكون أكتر أدب شوية، وممكن تنفع للناس الكبار أو لما تبعتها في رسالة مكتوبة. زي: "Could you help me with the dishes?"

الفرق بين الاتنين بسيط، بس Could you...? بتدي إحساس أكتر باحترام الطرف التاني.

فين تحط please؟

في الإنجليزي البريطاني، أحسن مكان لكلمة please هو في نص الجملة بعد الفعل الأساسي. فـ:

  • ✅ "Can you help me, please?" — ده الشيك والطبيعي.
  • ❌ "Can you please help me?" — ده ممكن ينفع بس أقل سلاسة في الكلام البريطاني.

الرد على الطلب

لما حد يطلب منك حاجة وإنت موافق، عندك كذا اختيار:

  • Sure — طبعاً
  • Of course — أكيد
  • No problem — مفيش مشكلة

وكلهم معناه "أيوه هساعدك".

لو مش فاضي

لو مش هتقدر تساعد دلوقتي، تقدر تقول "Sorry, I'm busy right now". دي طريقة لبقة تقول "لأ" من غير ما حد يزعل أو يحس إنك قاسي.

الرد على الشكر

لما حد يقولك Thank you أو Thank you so much، الردود الشائعة هي:

  • No problem — دي بريطانية أكتر وبتتقال كتير في البيوت البريطانية
  • You're welcome — دي أمريكاني شوية
  • That's all right — برضو بتنفع

ملحوظة مهمة

في بريطانيا بيقولوا mum مش mom زي أمريكا. وكمان No problem منتشرة جداً في الكلام البريطاني اليومي.

Listen to a short conversation between Lily and her dad, Mark. Lily is at home after school. She wants to ask her dad for help with two things at home today. As you listen, try to understand: who is speaking, what Lily wants, and when they will do the work.

Prediction question: Before you listen, think — when a child asks a parent for help at home in English, what polite words do they use? You will hear please, could you, and thank you in the conversation.

Strategy box — Listening for gist: First, listen to understand the general idea. Who is talking? Where are they? What do they want?

Mark says no problem and you're welcome — these are very common British responses. The conversation is natural and friendly, so the language is short and simple.

في المحادثة ليلي بتستخدم تلات طرق مختلفة للطلب:

  • Can you help me, please? — طريقة بسيطة ومهذبة. كلمة please بتخلي الطلب مؤدب.
  • Could you help me with the washing? — طريقة أقوى في الأدب. Could أرقى من can، وكلمة with بتربط المساعدة بحاجة معينة.
  • Can you also help me with the shopping later? — also معناها "كمان" و later معناها "بعدين".

كلمات وعبارات مهمة

Are you busy? معناها "إنت مشغول؟" — طريقة لطيفة تسأل بيها حد لو عنده وقت. Not really معناها "لأ، مش بالظبط" — رد عفوي شائع جداً. I have a lot of work today معناها "عندي شغل كتير النهاردة". No problem معناها "مفيش مشكلة" أو "بكل سرور" — رد بريطاني طبيعي جداً. I don't know how to use the machine معناها "أنا مش عارفة أستخدم الغسالة". بعد how to بنحط الفعل في صورته الأصلية (use مش used). Let's go at four o'clock معناها "يلا نروح الساعة أربعة". Let's بنستخدمها للاقتراح، و at بنحطها قبل الوقت.

استراتيجيات الاستماع

  1. استمع الأول للمعنى العام (gist): مين بيتكلم؟ فين هم؟ عايزين إيه؟
  2. استمع تاني مرة للمعلومات المهمة: ركز على الأسماء والأوقات. في المحادثة دي هتلاقي at four o'clock.
  3. استمع تالت مرة للتفاصيل الصغيرة: الكلمات الصغيرة زى after و with و also.

نصيحة أخيرة

متحاولش تفهم كل كلمة. ركز على الكلمات الأساسية بس زى help و washing و shopping والوقت. والمحاد دي بالإنجليزي البريطاني، فلما الأب بيقول no problem دي طريقة طبيعية جداً في بريطانيا للرد على طلب حد.

When you say a word like help or home, you start with a small push of air. This is the /h/ sound. In English, /h/ is very important. If you drop it, help sounds like elp — and people may not understand you.

To make /h/, keep your mouth relaxed. Open it a little, like you are breathing out gently. The air comes from your throat, not from your lungs pushing hard. Do NOT use your voice — /h/ is voiceless. Touch your throat: you should NOT feel a vibration. Just air.

Many languages do not have /h/ at the start of a word, so learners sometimes drop it. Listen to help, home, hand, have, here, house — the /h/ is at the START of each word. Compare heat /hiːt/ with eat /iːt/. The only difference is the air at the beginning. Say both words and listen to yourself.

تجربة سهلة: حط إيدك على زورك وقول "ha". لو حسيت إن الزور بيرتعش، يبقى الصوت ده مش /h/. جرّب تاني، وسيب الهوا يعدي لوحده. لو ما حسيتش بأي رعشة، يبقى أنت بتعمله صح!

الفرق بين "heat" و "eat"

ده مثال مهم جداً عشان تفهم قوة الـ /h/. لما بتقول heat (حرارة)، بتبدأ بـ /h/، يعني فيه نَفَسة قبل الـ vowel. لكن لما بتقول eat (يأكل)، ما فيهوش نَفَسة في البداية. الفرق صغير، بس لو ما نطقتش الـ /h/، الناس مش هتفهمك.

  • Can you help me at home? — "ممكن تساعدني في البيت؟"
  • I have a lot of work here. — "عندي شغل كتير هنا."

لاحظ إن كل الكلمات المكتوبة بالـ bold في الجمل دي بتبدأ بصوت الـ /h/. لما تتدرب، حاول تحس بنَفَسة الهوا قبل كل كلمة. يلا، اسمع الأمثلة اللي تحت وقول وراها. ركّز على إنك تسيب الهوا يعدي بهدوء من زورك!

Strategy box — Scanning: When you scan a short message, you do not read every word. You move your eyes quickly to find a name, a time, a day, or a number. Scanning saves time and helps you find answers fast.

Before you read Sam's message, here are four key words:

reply to answer a message

Now read Sam's message to his family. Sam is a teenager. He has a school project and needs help at home. Read it once quickly to understand the general idea (gist). Then read it again to find specific information, like the day and the time.

When you read for gist, ask yourself: 'What is this message about?' and 'Who is it for?' You do not need every detail yet.

When you read for detail, look for: dates, days of the week, times, and the exact words of a request. These are the small pieces of information that answer specific questions.

In the UK, families often write short messages in a chat group (like WhatsApp) to ask for help quickly. The language is short, friendly, and direct. We use contractions like I'm and don't. The tone is warm, not formal.

ثانياً: القراءة من أجل التفاصيل (Scanning) دي لما بتدور على معلومة محددة، زي يوم في الأسبوع، وقت، رقم، أو اسم. بتحرك عينك بسرعة على الكلام لحد ما تلاقي اللي بتدور عليه. مثلاً لو السؤال كان "إمتى Sam محتاج مساعدة؟"، أنت بتبص في الرسالة بسرعة لحد ما تلاقي يوم أو وقت.

أربع كلمات لازم تعرفها قبل ما تقرأ:

  • chore — يعني شغل في البيت، زي التنضيف أو الغسيل أو الطبخ
  • request — يعني إنك تطلب حاجة بأدب من حد
  • busy — يعني إنك مشغول وعندك حاجات كتير تعملها
  • reply — يعني ترد على رسالة حد

مثال على reply في سياق: لو أمك بعتتلك رسالة بتقول فيها "Please wash the dishes"، وأنت بترد عليها وبتقولها "OK, I'll do it now"، يبقى أنت عملت reply على request بتاعها.

الرسائل في العائلات البريطانية: في بريطانيا، العائلات بيستخدموا جروبات شات زي واتساب عشان يطلبوا مساعدة بسرعة. الرسائل بتبقى قصيرة وودية ومباشرة. بيستخدموا اختصارات كتير زي I'm بدل I am وdon't بدل do not وcan't بدل cannot. والأسلوب بيبقى دافي ومريح، مش رسمي خالص. يعني لو حد قالك Can you help me with a chore today?، ده مش سؤال رسمي، ده حد بيطلب منك بأدب تعمل شغل في البيت.

خطواتك دلوقتي: انزل للرسالة تحت، اقرأها مرة واحدة بسرعة عشان تفهم الفكرة العامة. بعدين اقرأها تاني بهدوء ودور على التفاصيل الصغيرة زي اليوم والوقت. متستعجلش، خد وقتك!

Here are useful phrases for asking for help at home:

Tip: Start with a greeting. Add please to be polite. End with thank you. In British English, we often use no problem instead of you're welcome.

When you speak, use polite intonation. Your voice should rise a little on Can you...? and fall on please and thank you. Speak clearly and not too fast. Do not worry about small mistakes — your family member will understand you.

Before you speak, read the model dialogue carefully. Notice the order: greet → check time → make request → say thank you. Follow this order in your own conversation.

In the roleplay step, you talk with the AI. The AI plays your dad or your mum. Be polite, ask for one chore, and use please and thank you. If the AI says 'Sorry, I'm busy', you can say 'No problem' and ask for another time. The roleplay is a real conversation, so listen to the AI and answer naturally.

نصيحة للنطق

لما تقول Can you... أو Could you... خلي صوتك يطلع شوية في الآخر، زي ما بنعمل في الأسئلة. لكن لما تقول please أو thank you خلي صوتك ينزل. واتكلم بهدوء وواضح، مفيش داعي تستعجل.

في الحصة دي هتسمع المثال الأول، وبعدين هتسجل نفسك وأنت بتقول الجمل. وفي الآخر هتعمل roleplay مع الذكاء الاصطناعي اللي هيقوم دور باباك أو ماماك. افتكر دايماً: ابدأ بالسلام، استخدم please لما تطلب، وختم بـ thank you. لو قال لك إنه مشغول، قول No problem واسأل في وقت تاني.

A short note is a great way to ask a family member for help. You can leave a note on the kitchen table or send it in a chat group. Here is Sam's note to his mum:

*Hi Mum,

Can you help me, please? On Saturday I need to clean my room, but I also have football practice. Could you help me with the cleaning in the morning? I can help you with the shopping after lunch.

This note has about 50 words. It is short, polite, and clear. It has three parts: greeting → request → thanks.

Using please and could — Strategy tip: Please and could make a note polite. Could you...? is softer than Can you...?. Use could in writing. End with thank you to be friendly.

When you write your own note, use: greeting (Hi Mum / Hi Dad), the chore (clean the kitchen, wash the car, take the dog for a walk), the day and time (on Saturday morning, after school), and a polite end (Thanks! / Thank you so much).

Plan your note before you write. Think: Who is the note for? What chore do you need help with? When do you need the help? Then write three short sentences.

Check your note: (1) Did you start with a greeting? (2) Did you use please or could? (3) Did you say when? (4) Did you end with thank you? If the answer is yes to all, your note is good.

In the next step, you read your note aloud. This helps you hear mistakes. A2 writers often forget please or write can instead of could. Read slowly and listen to yourself. Reading aloud is a good way to check your writing.

الكلمات السحرية للأدب

في الكتابة بالإنجليزي، فيه كلمات معينة لازم تستخدمها عشان طلبك يطلع مؤدب وراقي. أهم كلمتين هما please و could. خلي بالك، الجملة "Could you help me, please?" أقوى في الأدب بكتير من "Can you help me?". القاعدة البسيطة: في الكتابة، استخدم could دايماً مش can.

إزاي تخطط قبل ما تكتب؟

قبل ما تمسك القلم، اسأل نفسك 3 أسئلة:

  • الـ note ده لمين؟ (Who is it for?)
  • إيه الشغلة اللي محتاج مساعدة فيها؟ (What chore? زي clean the kitchen، wash the car، take the dog for a walk)
  • امتى محتاج المساعدة؟ (When? زي on Saturday morning، after school)

بعد ما تخلص الكتابة، ارجع اقرأ الـ note بتاعك واسأل نفسك:

  • هل بدأت بـ greeting؟
  • هل استخدمت please أو could؟
  • هل قلت الوقت (when)؟
