When you meet new people in English, you use short, friendly phrases. Some are formal (for work, school, or older people) and some are informal (for friends and people your age). Look at this table of common phrases:

A formal greeting sounds polite. An informal greeting is short and friendly. For example, "Hello" is more formal than "Hi." In business and school, use the formal phrases. With friends, you can be informal.

في الإنجليزي فيه نوعين من السلام: رسمي (formal) وغير رسمي (informal). النوع الرسمي بنستخدمه مع الناس الكبار، في الشغل، أو في المدرسة. النوع العادي بنستخدمه مع الصحاب والناس في سننا.

لما تقدم نفسك عندك اختيارين:

زي ما Emma قالت: Hi! I'm Emma. الـ I'm دي اختصار لـ I am، ودي الطريقة الشائعة في الكلام اليومي.

الرد على التعارف

لما حد يقولك اسمه، رد عليه بعبارة Nice to meet you (سعيد بلقائك). دي من أهم العبارات في التعارف. ولما حد يقولها ليك، انت كمان تقول Nice to meet you too (وأنا كمان سعيد بلقائك). لاحظ إن too معناها "أنا كمان".

السؤال عن البلد

بعد ما تعرفوا أسماء بعض، طبيعي جداً تسأل Where are you from? (إنت منين؟). والرد بيكون I'm from... زي ما Tom قال: I'm from Brazil. And you?

السؤال And you? مهم جداً لأنه بيفتح الباب للشخص التاني يتكلم ويقول بلد برضو.

في السيكشن دي، هنسمع محادثة قصيرة بين اتنين طلاب في أول يوم ليهم في كورس إنجليزي. هما بيقابلوا بعض لأول مرة، فبيسألوا بعض أسئلة بسيطة عشان يعرفوا بعض. الموقف ده بيحصل كل يوم في أي كورس جديد أو أي مكان تروحه لأول مرة، فالكلمات اللي هنا هتنفعك جدًا في حياتك.

القواعد الأساسية

السؤال بـ are و is:

  • "Are you new in this class?" — بنسأل بـ are لأن الضمير you.
  • "How old are you?" و "Where are you from?" — نفس الفكرة.
  • "What's your name?" — دي اختصار لـ What is your name?.

الإجابة بـ I'm: لما حد يسألك، الإجابة الطبيعية تبقى I'm + المعلومة. مثلاً: I'm Tom أو I'm from France أو I'm 25. كلمة I'm دي اختصار لـ I am.

عبارة Nice to meet you: من أهم العبارات لما تقابل حد لأول مرة. لما حد يقولها، رد عليه وقل Nice to meet you too. كلمة too معناها "أيضًا".

الكلمات والعبارات المهمة

  • Hi — تحية بسيطة، زي hello بس أخف.
  • Nice to meet you — سعيد بلقائك.

نصيحة للاستماع

قبل ما تسمع المحادثة، خد ثانية وفكر: لو قابلت زميل جديد النهاردة، هتسأله إيه؟ غالبًا هيكون نفس الأسئلة التلاتة: اسمه إيه؟، منين؟، وعنده كام سنة؟. ركز على الإجابات اللي في الحوار، وخد بالك إن الجمل كلها قصيرة وبسيطة لأنها مناسبة لمستواك A1. لو فاتتك كلمة، متقلقش، كمّل اسمع وحاول تمسك الفكرة العامة.

English has two sounds that look the same in spelling but sound very different: /iː/ (a long "ee") and /ɪ/ (a short "ih"). The lesson word meet uses the long sound /iː/, but the word mit (a glove) uses the short sound /ɪ/. Mixing them up can change the meaning of a word.

To make /iː/, spread your lips in a small smile. Keep your tongue high and forward in your mouth. Make the sound long — like you are smiling at a friend: eeeeeee. This is a tense sound. To make /ɪ/, relax your mouth. Your lips are a little open, and the sound is short and quick — like ih. This is a lax sound.

Here are common words with each sound:

When you greet someone, say "Nice to meet you" with a long /iː/. That word is very important today!

الدرس النهارده عن حاجة مهمة جدًا في اللفظ الإنجليزي - صوت واحد بس ممكن يغيّر معنى الكلمة كلها لو نطقته غلط.

في اللغة الإنجليزية فيه صوتين بيبانوا زي بعض في الكتابة، بس في الحقيقة مختلفين تمامًا: الصوت الطويل /iː/ زي اللي في كلمة meet، والصوت القصير /ɪ/ زي اللي في كلمة mit (يعني جوانتي). الفرق بينهم صغير في الكتابة بس كبير في النطق، وده ممكن يغيّر معنى الجملة كلها!

إزاي تعمل صوت الـ /iː/ الطويل؟ ابدأ بابتسامة صغيرة، وشدّ شفايفك شوية. حطّ لسانك فوق قدام في بقك، قريب من سقف الحلق، وطلّع الصوت طويل ومستمر - زي ما بتقول /eeeeeee/ كأنك بتبتسم لصاحبك. الصوت ده اسمه tense يعني متوتّر ومشدود. جرّب على الكلمات دي:

  • meet (نتقابل)
  • greet (نسلّم على حد)
  • please (لو سمحت)
  • speak (نتكلّم)
  • see (أشوف)

طيب وإزاي تعمل صوت الـ /ɪ/ القصير؟ خلّي بقك مرتاح تمامًا، شفايفك مفتوحة شوية من غير ابتسامة. الصوت هيطلع قصير وسريع، زي /ih/، وخلاص خلصت. ده اسمه lax يعني مرتخي. أمثلة عليه:

  • is (هو/هي)
  • sit (يقعد)
  • in (في/جوا)
  • his (بتاعه)
  • mit (جوانتي)

الفرق ببساطة:

  • /iː/ (الطويل): ابتسامة + لسان عالي قدام + صوت ممدود
  • /ɪ/ (القصير): بق مرتاح + لسان في النص + صوت سريع

في الجملة المهمة "Nice to meet you" اللي بنقولها لما نتعرّف على حد جديد، خلي بالك من كلمة meet - لازم تقولها بالصوت الطويل والابتسامة، مش بالقصير. لو نطقتها غلط، اللي قدامك ممكن مايفهمهاش أو يحس إن نطقك مش واضح.

نصيحة قبل التمرين: ركّز على شكل بقك وحركة لسانك، مش بس على السمع. خد وقتك في كل كلمة وقلها بصوت عالي. اسمع المثال كويس، وبعدين كرّره ورايه بالظبط.

When you meet new people, it is helpful to read or write a personal profile — a short text about yourself. In this section, you will read Sara's profile from her class blog.

Strategy: Skimming for the main idea.

When you skim a text, you read it quickly to get the general idea. Don't stop on every word. Look at:

  • the first line (name and hello)
  • the country or city
  • the job or school
  • the hobbies

These four things are the most important.

Key words to know before you read:

السلام عليكم! يلا بينا نتعلم حاجة مهمة جداً اسمها skimming أو القراءة السريعة. لما بتيجي تقرأ نص إنجليزي ومش عايز تضيع وقتك في كل كلمة، بتعمل skim — يعني بتحط عينيك على النص بسرعة عشان تاخد الفكرة العامة بس، من غير ما توقف على كل تفصيلة.

إيه هو الـ personal profile؟ ده بروفايل شخصي — يعني نص قصير حد بيكتب فيه عن نفسه. ممكن يكون على مدوّنة، أو على لينكدإن، أو حتى في أول رسالة على واتساب. الناس بتكتبه عشان يعرفوا مين هم بسرعة.

قبل ما تقرأ، خلّينا نعرف ٤ كلمات مهمة هتساعدك تفهم النص:

  • student = طالب. لو حد قال "I'm a student" يبقى بيذاكر في مدرسة أو جامعة. زي مثلاً لما تقول "I'm a university student" يبقى أنت طالب في الجامعة.
  • university = جامعة. دي المدرسة اللي بتدخلها لما تبقى في مرحلة أعلى بعد الثانوية.
  • family = العائلة. يعني الأب، الأم، الإخوات، وأي حد قريب منك. لما حد يقول "I love my family" يبقى بيحب أهله.
  • favorite = المفضّل. لما بتقول "my favorite food" يبقى الأكلة اللي بتحبها أكتر من أي حاجة تانية.

طب إزاي تعمل skim صح؟ ركّز على ٤ حاجات بس:

  • أول سطر — غالباً فيه الاسم والتحية
  • اسم البلد أو المدينة
  • الشغل أو الدراسة
  • الهوايات

تخيّل كإنك بتفتح مجلة وبتمشي عينك على العناوين والصور بس، مش بتقرأ كل كلمة. نفس الفكرة بالظبط. لما بتعمل كده، بتلاقي إنك فهمت الفكرة في ثواني. يلا نجرّب!

Remember: the verb to be in present tense: I am (not "I is" or "I are"). Always use I am for yourself.

ليه بنتعلم إزاي نعرّف نفسنا بالإنجليزي؟

أول ما تقابل حد جديد، سواء في شغل أو في سفرة أو في أي مكان، أهم حاجة إنك تقدر تقول اسمك ومكانك. الجُمل اللي هتتعلمها النهاردة بسيطة جدًا، بس هي اللي بتفتح أي محادثة.

الجُمل الأساسية اللي لازم تحفظها:

  • Hi! / Hello! دي كلمات التحية الأساسية. بتستخدمها لما تقابل حد أو ترد على تليفون.
  • My name is… معناها "اسمي…". مثلًا: My name is Tom يعني "اسمي توم".
  • I am from… عشان تقول بلدك أو مدينتك. مثلًا: I'm from Brazil يعني "أنا من البرازيل".
  • Nice to meet you دي جملة مهذبة بتتقال لما تعرف حد لأول مرة، معناها "سعيد بلقائك".

قاعدة مهمة جدًا: فعل to be

في الإنجليزي، فعل to be بيعني "يكون". لما تتكلم عن نفسك، الصيغة الوحيدة اللي بتستخدمها هي I am، ومختصرة I'm.

  • ✅ I'm from Spain. (أنا من إسبانيا)
  • ❌ I is Tom. (غلط)

مثال على محادثة كاملة بين اتنين اتعرفوا جديد:

نصايح عملية:

  • لما تسأل "Where are you from?"، حاول تضيف "And you?" في الآخر عشان المحادثة تكمل.
  • خلي صوتك واثق ومبتسم. كلمة Nice to meet you بتخلي الجو ودّي وبتسهّل إن اللي قدامك يحب يكمّل معاك الكلام.
  • في المستويات اللي جاية هتتعلم تقول سنك وشغلك، بس دلوقتي ركّز بس على الاسم والبلد.

Using capital letters.

In English, we use a capital letter (A, B, C…) in these places:

  1. The first word of a sentence: "Hello!"
  2. The pronoun I: "I am Ana."
  3. Names of people: "Ana", "Tom"
  4. Names of countries and cities: "Mexico", "Paris"

Always check your profile for capital letters before you finish!

اكتب بروفايل شخصي قصير

في الجزء ده من الدرس، المطلوب منك إنك تكتب personal profile قصير عن نفسك، زي اللي عملته Ana في المثال. الفكرة بسيطة: تعرّف بنفسك في خمس أو ست جمل، وتخليها طبيعية وواضحة.

إزاي تبني البروفايل؟

ابدأ بـ Hello! زي ما Ana عملت، وبعدين استخدم الجُمل الجاهزة دي:

  • My name is _____ (اسمي _____)
  • I am from _____ (أنا من _____)
  • I am ___ years old (عمري ___ سنة)
  • I am a student (أنا طالب/طالبة)

ممكن تضيف أي حاجة تانية تحب تقولها عن نفسك، بس خلّي الجمل قصيرة وواضحة.

الحروف الكبيرة (Capital Letters) - قاعدة مهمة

في الإنجليزية، فيه أماكن معينة لازم تكتب فيها أول حرف كبير. دي مش رفاهية، دي قاعدة:

  • أول كلمة في أي جملة: تكتب H في Hello! مش hello.
  • ضمير المتكلم I: دايمًا يتكتب capital، سواء في الأول أو في نص الجملة. زي I am Ana أو This is for I and you.
  • أسماء الناس: Ana, Tom, Sara.
  • أسماء البلاد والمدن: Mexico, Paris, Cairo, Egypt.

مثال تطبيقي

لو اسمي أحمد ومن مصر وبدرس إنجليزي وبحب الموسيقى، هكتب كده:

Hello! My name is Ahmed. I am from Cairo, Egypt. I am 20 years old. I am a student. I study English. I like music. Nice to meet you!

نصيحة أخيرة

قبل ما تسلّم البروفايل، ارجعله تاني واقراه بعينك. اسأل نفسك: هل كل جملة بدأت بـ capital letter؟ هل كتبت I كبيرة؟ هل أسماء الناس والبلاد كلها بأحرف كبيرة؟ ده هيفرق معاك جدًا في كتابتك.
