Now it's your turn to talk. When you chat with someone about music, a few short phrases are very useful. You can ask about their taste, share yours, and react politely — even if you don't like the same music.

Asking questions:

What kind of music do you like?
Do you like pop music?
Who's your favourite singer or band?
Do you play any instruments?

Sharing your own music:

I really like…
I love listening to…
My favourite type of music is…
I prefer… (when you compare two things)

Reacting:

That's cool!
Really? I prefer…
I don't like … very much.
Me too! / Me neither!

Listen to the model dialogue below. Emma and Tom are talking at a school break. Tom starts the conversation about music. Notice how Emma asks a question, Tom answers, and then Emma gives her opinion. The conversation is short, friendly and natural — exactly the kind of talk you can have in real life.

A good speaker doesn't only talk — they also ask questions and listen. In this lesson, your job is to keep the conversation going. Use the phrases above, add a follow-up question, and react to what the other person says. Don't worry about perfect grammar: short, clear sentences are best at A2 level.

Practice saying each line out loud. Try to sound friendly and interested. When you do the roleplay, imagine you are meeting a new classmate — be curious about their music, and be ready to share your own favourites.

اتكلّم عن الموسيقى بطلاقة!

في الدرس ده هنتعلم إزاي تفتح محادثة مع حد جديد عن الموسيقى، وتقوله إيه اللي بتحبه وإيه اللي مش بتحبه، وإزاي تخلّي الكلام ماشي بشكل طبيعي ومريح.

أولاً: اسأل عن ذوق الشخص

لما تحب تسأل حد عن الموسيقى اللي بيحبها، بتبدأ بـ "Do you like…?" زي مثلاً: Do you like pop music? أو Do you like rock?. ولو عايز تسأل بشكل أوسع عن نوع الموسيقى، استخدم "What kind of music do you like?" يعني "إيه نوع الموسيقى اللي بتحبها؟".

ثانياً: شارك اللي إنت بتحبه

عشان تقول إنك بتحب حاجة، عندك كذا طريقة بدرجات مختلفة:

I really like… (أنا فعلاً بحب) — لما تحب حاجة جامدة، زي: I really like rock.
I love… (أنا بحب جداً) — دي أقوى شوية في التعبير.
My favourite is… (المفضّل عندي هو…) — لما تقارن بين كذا نوع، زي: My favourite is pop.

ثالثاً: عبّر عن إنك مش بتحب

لو مش بتحب نوع معيّن، بلاش تقول I hate لأن دي كلمة قوية. الأحسن تقول "I don't like … very much" يعني "مش بحب… أوي". مثلاً: I don't like jazz very much. كده أنت بتقول رأيك من غير ما تجرح حد.

رابعاً: ردود فعل تخليك تكمّل الكلام

المحادثة الكويسة مش بس كلام — لازم تعلّق على اللي الشخص التاني بيقوله:

لما حد يقولك حاجة حلوة، قوله "That's cool!" أو "Really?"
لما حد يقول إنه مش بيحب حاجة، قوله "That's OK." عشان المحادثة تفضل ماشية بسلاسة

خامساً: اسأل سؤال تاني عشان تكمّل

كل ما حد يجاوبك، حاول تسأل سؤال تاني يكمّل الموضوع. مثلاً: بعد ما تسأله Do you like pop? ويقولك yes، قوله Cool! And who's your favourite singer? كده أنت بتفتح مواضيع جديدة وبتخلّي الشخص التاني يحس إنك مهتم.

قاعدة مهمة: اتّفق أو اختلف بسرعة

عندك تعبيرين سهلين جداً هيساعدوك جداً:

Me too! = أنا كمان! (لما توافق على نفس الرأي)
Me neither! = أنا كمان لا! (لما تختلف وتشوف إنه مش بيحب حاجة إنت كمان مش بتحبها)

كده أنت جاهز تفتح محادثة كاملة عن الموسيقى. ابدأ بسؤال، شارك ذوقك، علّق برد فعل، واسأل سؤال تاني. خلي جمل قصيرة وواضحة ومتنساش تبتسم! 😊

Music is everywhere. In shops, in cars, in cafés and at home, people listen to music every day. But we don't all like the same music. Some people love fast pop songs. Other people prefer slow classical music. Talking about music is a great way to start a conversation in English.

Here are some common types of music. The table shows the word, the part of speech, a meaning in Arabic, and an example sentence.

To talk about what you like, use these patterns: I like…, I love…, I don't like…, and My favourite … is…. After like or love, you can use a noun on its own — I like jazz — or the -ing form of a verb — I like listening to jazz. Both are correct.

Here are some full examples:

I love pop music. It's so catchy.
My brother likes rock, but I don't.
She doesn't like hip hop very much.
My favourite type of music is classical.

When someone asks you What kind of music do you like?, you can answer with one of these patterns. Practice saying them out loud — they are the most useful sentences in this lesson.

عشان تقول رأيك في أي نوع من الموسيقى، استخدم الـ patterns دي:

I like + النوع = بحب
I love + النوع = بحب جداً
I don't like + النوع = مش بحب
My favourite + النوع + is = المفضل عندي

قاعدة مهمة في الجرامر

بعد like أو love، ينفع تحط اسم لوحده زي:

I like jazz.

أو ينفع تحط فعل بصيغة الـ -ing زي:

I like listening to jazz.
