We use the present simple to talk about habits, routines, and things we do regularly — and that includes watching TV! When you say I watch the news every evening or My sister loves documentaries, you are using the present simple.

Look at the table below. Notice what changes with he, she, it.

Key rules to remember:

Verbs ending in -o, -s, -sh, -ch, -x add -es: watch → watches.
With he / she / it, the verb ends in -s or -es.
Use don't with I, you, we, they. Use doesn't with he, she, it.
After doesn't, use the base verb: He doesn't watch (not watches).
Short answers: Yes, I do. / No, I don't. / Yes, she does. / No, he doesn't.

الـ Present Simple مع برامج التلفزيون

يا أهلاً بيكوا تاني! النهاردة هنتكلم عن قاعدة مهمة في الإنجليزي: الـ present simple، أو المضارع البسيط. القاعدة دي بنستخدمها لما نتكلم عن عاداتنا اليومية وحاجات بنعملها بانتظام، زي ما بنتفرج على التلفزيون.

القاعدة الأساسية: إمتى بنضيف -s أو -es؟

خد عندك الفعل watch (يعني يتفرج). لما أقول على نفسي بتقول "I watch"، لكن لما أقول على أخويا أو صاحبي بتقول "he watches" أو "she watches". شايف الـ -es اللي في الآخر؟ دي الإضافة المهمة اللي لازم تنمعها في التمارين.

القاعدة المختصرة:

I / You / We / They → الفعل زي ما هو: watch (I watch TV every day)
He / She / It → بنضيف -s أو -es: watches (She watches the news)

الـ Spelling Rule (قاعدة الإملاء)

مش كل الأفعال بتاخد -es. بنضيف -es بس لما الفعل ينتهي بـ:

-o → go → goes
-s → miss → misses
-sh → wash → washes
-ch → watch → watches ✅
-x → fix → fixes

لما ينتهي بحروف تانية، بنضيف -s بس، زي works و plays.

النفي (Negative)

عشان تقول إن حد مش بيعمل حاجة:

مع I, you, we, they بنستخدم don't: I don't watch TV in the morning.
مع he, she, it بنستخدم doesn't: He doesn't watch soap operas.

⚠️ مهم جداً: بعد doesn't، الفعل بيرجع لشكله الأساسي من غير الـ -s. يعني مش بتقول "He doesn't watches"، لا بتقول "He doesn't watch".

الأسئلة (Questions)

إجابات قصيرة (Short Answers)

Yes, I do. / No, I don't.
Yes, she does. / No, he doesn't.

لما تشوف التمارين تحت، ركز على الـ subject الأول. لو كان he أو she أو it، افتكر إن الفعل محتاج -s أو -es في الجملة المثبتة، ومحتاج doesn't + الفعل الأساسي في النفي. وخد بالك كمان من إزاي بتترتب الكلمات في الـ reorder عشان تساعدك تفتكر الترتيب الصح.

You are going to listen to a short conversation between two friends, Emma and Tom. They meet on Saturday morning in a small café near their homes in London. The café is quiet, and they have a lot to talk about — especially TV!

Before you listen: what do you think? Do Emma and Tom like the same TV programmes, or do they like different things? Do you think they watch TV every day? Listen and find out.

When you listen to English (UK), it is normal to miss some words the first time. Don't worry. Listen for:

Channel names (BBC Two, Channel Four, ITV).
Programme names (documentary, news, soap opera, cartoon, sports show).
Times (nine o'clock).
Likes and dislikes (Yes, I do / No, I don't).

You will hear the conversation twice. First, listen for the general topic. Then listen again for specific details. After you listen, you will answer three questions: one about the topic, one about a specific programme, and one about a small detail.

السيناريو بتاع اليوم: تلفزيون ومحادثة

في الـ listening دي، هتسمع محادثة بين اتنين أصحاب، Emma و Tom، قاعدين في كافيه صغير يوم السبت الصبح في لندن. الاتنين بيكلموا عن إيه اللي شافوه على التلفزيون إمبارح بالليل. المحادثة بسيطة وطبيعية جداً، وفيها greeting عادي وبعدين بينزلوا على طول في موضوع الـ TV.

الكلمات والعبارات المهمة

خليني أديك أهم الـ vocabulary اللي هتظهر في الـ dialogue:

Documentary: فيلم عن مواضيع حقيقية، زي الطبيعة أو التاريخ. Tom قال a great documentary about the sea.
News: الأخبار. Emma بتحب تتفرج على news كل يوم.
Cartoon: رسومات متحركة للعادة للأطفال، بس الكبار برضو ممكن يتفرجوا عليها.
Sports show: برنامج رياضي.
Soap opera: مسلسل درامي طويل، ساعات بيتقال عليه بس soap.

جرامر مهم لازم تركز عليه

1. الماضي البسيط (Past Simple)

لما بتتكلم عن حاجة حصلت إمبارح أو في وقت معين في الماضي، بنستخدم الماضي البسيط:

I watched a great documentary.
It was on BBC Two at nine o'clock.

2. المضارع البسيط (Present Simple) للعادة

لما بتتكلم عن حاجة بتعملها كل يوم أو بشكل متكرر، بنستخدم المضارع البسيط:

I watch it every evening.
I prefer sports shows.

3. الأسئلة بـ do/does والإجابات القصيرة

في الـ dialogue، Tom بيسأل Do you like the news? و Emma بترد Yes, I do. وبعدين Emma بتسأل Do you watch cartoons? و Tom بيرد No, I don't.

لاحظ شكل الإجابات القصيرة:

4. حروف الجر مع التلفزيون

نصيحة للاستماع

أول مرة تسمع الـ dialogue، ركّز بس على الفكرة العامة: إيه برامج التلفزيون اللي بيتكلموا عنها. تاني مرة، دَوّر على التفاصيل الصغيرة زي أسماء القنوات والأوقات والإجابات بـ Yes, I do و No, I don't. متقلقش لو فاتتك كلمات — ده طبيعي جداً!

In this lesson we look at one sound that is very important in English (UK) and often tricky for Arabic speakers: the sound /w/. This sound appears at the start of the word watch — one of the most useful TV words in English.

How to make /w/:

Round your lips tightly into a small circle, like you are about to whistle or say 'oo'.
Lift the back of your tongue up towards the roof of your mouth.
It is a voiced sound — your voice is on. You can feel a vibration in your throat.
Air comes out through both lips in a short, quick movement.
Release your lips quickly into the next sound.

Be careful — /w/ is NOT /v/! Many Arabic speakers confuse these two sounds. The difference:

/w/: round your lips, do NOT touch your teeth.
/v/: place your top teeth gently on your bottom lip; do NOT round your lips.

For example: wet (/wet/) starts with /w/ — vet (/vet/) starts with /v/. Same letters, different first sound.

Words with the /w/ sound:

In the word watch, you start with /w/ — round your lips — and then say the short vowel /ɒ/ and finish with /tʃ/. Practice: watch, watch, watch.

إزاي تعمل صوت الـ /w/ صح؟

عشان تعمل الصوت ده بالظبط، اتبع الخطوات دي:

الشفتيين: شدّ شفتيك وارسمهم بشكل دائرة صغيرة، زي ما هتزيّن أو تقول "وو".
اللسان: ارفع الجزء اللي ورا من لسانك ناحية سقف بقك.
الصوت: الصوت ده مجهور (voiced)، يعني لازم صوتك يكون شغال. لو حطيت إيدك على زورك، هتحس بذبذبة خفيفة.
الهوا: بيطلع من الشفتين في حركة قصيرة وسريعة.

أهم حاجة: متخلطش بين الـ /w/ والـ /v/!

دي أكتر غلطة بيقع فيها الناطقين بالعربي. خلّينا نقارن:

/w/: شفتيك مدوّرين بشكل دائري، ولاتلمّش سنانك خالص.
/v/: سنانك الفوقي على شفتك السُّفل، وشفتيك مش مدوّرين.

مثال يوضّح الفرق: كلمة wet (مبلول) بتبدأ بصوت /w/، لكن كلمة vet (دكتور بيطري) بتبدأ بصوت /v/. نفس الحروف، بس الصوت الأول مختلف تمامًا.

A TV guide is a short list of programmes on TV today, tomorrow, or this week. You can find a TV guide in a newspaper, on a TV channel's website, or on your phone. We use it to find programmes and their times.

Strategy: Skimming When you skim a TV guide, don't read every word. Move your eyes quickly down the page and look for:

Channel names (BBC One, ITV, Channel 4).
Times (7 pm, 9 pm).
Programme names in bold or CAPITALS.
Types of programmes (News, Sport, Film, Quiz).

This helps you find what you want in seconds, not minutes.

Key words to know before you read:

tonight (الليلة) — this evening, after the sun goes down.
quiz show (برنامج مسابقات) — a programme with questions and answers; people win prizes.
drama (دراما) — a serious story with actors.
weather (الطقس) — the report about sun, rain, wind, etc.
highlights (أهم اللحظات) — the most exciting moments of a match or event.

متقلقش من كل كلمة - المهم توصل الفكرة الأساسية
اسمع الأول وبعدين كرر - حاول تنسخ نفس الإيقاع والنبرة اللي سمعتها

لما تسجل نفسك، ركز إن كلامك يطلع طبيعي قدر الإمكان. وبعدها هتعمل roleplay حقيقي مع الـ AI، فلازم تبقى جاهز تقول إيه اللي إنت بتحب تتفرج عليه!

When we talk about television in English (UK), we use a small set of everyday words. British people often say telly for television, and they like to talk about what they watch, when, and on which channel. In this lesson, you will learn eight key words for talking about TV programmes.

The table below shows each word, its part of speech, the meaning in Arabic, and an example sentence. Read the table carefully. Notice that in British English, we say programme (not 'program'), and we use channel for a TV station like BBC One or ITV.

Some useful facts:

The noun news is always singular: The news is on at nine. (not are).
A documentary is a film about real life, real people, or real events.
A soap opera is a long story, usually about people and their problems, with a new episode every day or every week.
A cartoon is a programme with drawings, often for children.
A sports show is a programme about sport, like football, tennis, or Formula 1.

When you talk about TV in English, you can use these words to answer questions like What do you watch? and What is your favourite programme?. You can also ask Do you like documentaries? and What time is the news on?.
