In this lesson we use the past simple to talk about a film you watched. The past simple is for things that finished in the past — yesterday, last week, or many years ago. The time word often shows you that the verb is in the past.
For regular verbs, we add -ed to the base verb. The verb form is the same for I, you, he, she, we and they. Look at the table below. Notice that the verb does not change for the person.
Subject
Base verb
Past simple
I / You / We / They
watch

He / She
watch

I / You / We / They
like
liked
He / She

I / You / We / They
go

He / She

went
Many common verbs are irregular: go → went, see → saw, have → had, say → said, make → made. You must learn these — you cannot add -ed. For example, we say I saw a film last night, not I sawed a film.
To make the negative, use did not (didn't) + the base verb. The verb goes back to the base form. We say I didn't like the film — not I didn't liked. To make a question, use Did + subject + base verb: Did you watch it? The short answer is Yes, I did or No, I didn't.
Form
Example
Positive
She watched a film yesterday.
Negative
She didn't watch a film yesterday.
Question
Did she watch a film yesterday?
Short answer
Yes, she did. / No, she didn't.
Common time expressions for films are: yesterday, last night, last weekend, two days ago, in 2020, when I was young.
زمن الماضي البسيط – Past Simple
في الدرس ده هنتعلم إزاي نحكي عن فيلم اتفرجت عليه، واللي هيكون باستخدام الماضي البسيط (Past Simple). إحنا بنستخدم الماضي البسيط لما نحكي عن حاجة حصلت واتخلّصت خلاص في الماضي، زي إنك اتفرجت على فيلم إمبارح بالليل أو من أسبوع.
الفعل العادي (Regular Verbs)
معظم الأفعال في الإنجليزي لما تيجي تحطها في الماضي، بنضيفلها في الآخر -ed وده اسمه فعل عادي. وكمان الفعل بيفضل زي ما هو مع كل الأشخاص - يعني مش بيختلف لو قلت I أو she أو they، كلهم بياخدوا نفس الصورة. مثال: الفعل watch بيبقى watched في الماضي. فبتقول: "I watched a really good film last night."
الفعل الشاذ (Irregular Verbs)
بس فيه أفعال مهمة ومش بتسمعش لقاعدة الـ-ed دي، ولازم تحفظها لأنها مش بتتبع أي قاعدة:
go → went (روح/ذهب)
see → saw (اتفرج/شاهد)
have → had (أخد/حضر)
say → said (قال)
make → made (عمل)
يعني مش بنقول أبداً "I goed to the cinema"، بنقول "I went to the cinema yesterday."
النفي (Negative)
عشان تقول جملة منفية في الماضي، بنستخدم didn't وبعدها الفعل في صورته الأساسية، يعني نفس صورة المضارع، مش الماضي. فبدل ما تقول liked، بترجعها like. مثال: "She didn't like the ending of the film."
السؤال (Questions)
عشان تسأل سؤال في الماضي، بتبدأ بـ Did وبعدين الفاعل وبعدين الفعل في صورته الأساسية. مثلاً: "Did you watch it?" والإجابة المختصرة بتكون "Yes, I did." أو "No, I didn't."
كلمات الزمن (Time Expressions)
في التمارين اللي جاية، دوّر على الكلمات دي عشان تفهم إن الجملة في الماضي:
yesterday (إمبارح)
last night (الليلة اللي فاتت)
last weekend (الويكند اللي فات)
two days ago (من يومين)
in 2020 (في سنة 2020)
when I was young (لما كنت صغير)
لما تشوف أي كلمة من دول في التمرين، اعرف على طول إن الفعل لازم يبقى في الماضي البسيط.

You are going to listen to a short conversation between two friends, Emma and Tom. They are in a café on Saturday afternoon. Emma watched a film last night and she wants to tell Tom about it. Tom is asking questions because he is thinking about watching it too.
Before you listen, think: what kind of film do you think Emma watched?Funny, scary, or something else? Listen for the past simple verbs and the film words you learnt earlier.
المحادثة بين Emma و Tom
الدرس ده عن محادثة بين صاحبين، Emma و Tom، قاعدين في القهوة يوم السبت. Emma عايزة تحكي لـ Tom على فيلم حلو شافته امبارح بالليل، و Tom بيسأل أسئلة عشان يفكر يشوفه هو كمان.
الكلمات والعبارات المهمة
How are you? معناها "إزيك؟"، وهي تحية عادية بنستخدمها لما نقابل حد.
You look happy يعني "إنت شكلُك مبسوط". Tom لاحظ إن وش Emma مضيء وسعيد.
I want to tell you about it يعني "عايز أقولك عليه". بنستخدمها لما نكون متحمسين لحاجة عايزين نشاركها.
What was it called? يعني "اسمُه إيه؟". بنسأل بيها عن اسم فيلم أو كتاب أو أي حاجة.
It's about a man who walked across his country معناها "الفيلم عن راجل مشى في كل بلده".
Was it funny or serious? يعني "كان مضحك ولا جاد؟".
قاعدة النحو: Past Simple
في المحادثة دي هنلاحظ استخدام المضارع البسيط الماضي (Past Simple) كتير. بنستخدمه عشان نحكي عن حاجة حصلت في وقت محدد في الماضي وخلصت. اتفرج على الأمثلة دي:
watched → I watched a great film last night. (شُفت فيلم حلو امبارح بالليل)
walked → A man who walked across his country. (راجل مشى في كل بلده)
was → What was it called? (كان اسمُه إيه؟)
was → It was amazing! (كان رائع!)
القاعدة بسيطة: لو الفعل منتظم بنضيف -ed في الآخر، زي watch → watched و walk → walked. ولو غير منتظم بنستخدم الشكل التاني، زي be → was و is → was.
نصايح للاستماع
في المرة الأولى، ركز على الفكرة العامة بس: الفيلم ده عن إيه؟
في المرة الثانية، ركز على الأفعال في الماضي (Past Simple verbs) وحاول تحفظها.
حاول تلتقط الكلمات المفتاحية زي film و story و actors.
مفيش مشكلة لو مش فاهم كل كلمة، المهم تفهم الإحساس العام للمحادثة.
تعبيرات إضافية هتساعدك
The story was very interesting → القصة كانت مثيرة للاهتمام.
The actors were brilliant → الممثلين كانوا رائعين.
You look happy → شكلك مبسوط.
الجزء ده بيساعدك تتعلم إزاي تسأل وتجاوب على أسئلة عن الأفلام، وكمان تتدرب على زمن الماضي في الإنجليزي بطريقة طبيعية جداً.

In the past simple, regular verbs end in -ed. But we say this ending in three different ways: /t/, /d/ or /ɪd/. Listen carefully — the sound depends on the last sound of the base verb.
1. /t/ — after verbs ending in a voiceless sound
The sound is /t/, like a strong puff of air. Your tongue touches the top of your mouth but your voice is OFF. There is no vibration in your throat. Try the words: watched, liked, walked, stopped, laughed.
2. /d/ — after verbs ending in a voiced sound
The sound is /d/. Your tongue is in the same place, but now your voice is ON. You can feel vibration in your throat. Try: played, loved, lived, called, studied.
3. /ɪd/ — after verbs ending in /t/ or /d/
We add a full extra syllable /ɪd/. The tongue tip touches the top of the mouth twice. Try: wanted, started, needed, decided, hated.
Verb
Last sound
-ed pronunciation
watch
/tʃ/
watched → /wɒtʃt/
like
/k/
liked → /laɪkt/
play
/eɪ/
played → /pleɪd/
love
/v/
loved → /lʌvd/
want
/t/
wanted → /ˈwɒntɪd/
start
/t/
started → /ˈstɑːtɪd/
Remember: the spelling is always -ed, but the sound is different!
To make /t/: tongue up, no voice, push air out. /d/: same place, voice ON. /ɪd/: add a new syllable after /t/ or /d/.

إزاي تتكلم عن فيلم بالإنجليزي
في الجزء ده، هنتعلم إزاي نحكي لحد عن فيلم شفناه باستخدام المضارع البسيط الماضي (Past Simple). ده زمن بنستخدمه لما نحكي عن حاجة حصلت في الماضي، زي امبارح أو الأسبوع اللي فات.
الأزمنة اللي هنستخدمها
watched = اتفرجت (لـ I, he, she, it)
did = السؤال أو النفي (Did you like it? / I didn't like it)
was / were = كان (للوصف في الماضي)
طريقة ترتيب الكلام
أول حاجة بنقول اسم الفيلم، بعدين موضوعه، بعدين رأيينا فيه، وأخيرًا التوصية:
افتتاحية: I watched a film called 'The Mountain'.
الموضوع: It was about a family who climbed a mountain.
الرأي: The story was beautiful. The actors were brilliant.
التوصية: I recommend it! أو I don't recommend it.
جمل مفيدة تحفظها
لما تسأل: Did you watch 'The Mountain'?
لما تجاوب بإيجاب: Yes, I did. I liked it because the story was beautiful.
لما تجاوب بسلب: No, I didn't. I didn't like the ending, but the actors were brilliant.
عشان تطلب رأي حد تاني: What was it about? Did you like it?
عشان توصي بيه: I recommend it! You should watch it this weekend.
نصايح مهمة
استخدم because عشان تبرر رأيك: I liked it because the story was beautiful.
خلي جملك قصيرة وواضحة، مفيش داعي تشرح تفاصيل كتير.
حاول تربط الإجابة بسؤال اللي قدامك، عشان الكلام يبقى طبيعي زي المحادثة الحقيقية.
لو الفيلم مش حلو، قول رأيك بصراحة بس بأدب: I didn't like the ending, but the actors were brilliant.
دلوقتي هتسجل صوتك وأنت بتقول الجمل، وبعدين هتعمل شات مباشر مع الـ AI عشان تتمرن على المحادثة.

كلام عن فيلم شفته – Vocabulary
في الدرس ده هنتعلم مجموعة كلمات أساسية بتستخدمها لما تحب تتكلم عن فيلم شفته أو عايز تسمع حد بيتكلم عن فيلم. الكلمات دي مقسمة لجزئين مهمين: أسماء (nouns) وصفات (adjectives).
الأسماء (Nouns):
film = فيلم — دي الكلمة الأساسية لما تتكلم عن أي فيلم. مثال: "I watched a new film last night."
actor = ممثل — الشخص اللي بيقدّم الدور في الفيلم. مثال: "The actor was very famous."
director = مخرج — الشخص اللي بيوجّه الفيلم. مثال: "The director made three films."
story = قصة — الأحداث اللي بتحصل في الفيلم. مثال: "The story was very interesting."
character = شخصية — أي حد موجود في الفيلم. مثال: "My favourite character is the girl."
scene = مشهد — جزء معيّن من الفيلم. مثال: "The first scene is in a city."
الصفات (Adjectives):
funny = مضحك — لما الفيلم يضحّكك. مثال: "The film was really funny."
scary = مخيف — لما الفيلم يخلّيك تخاف. مثال: "It was the scariest film I saw."
boring = ممل — لما الفيلم ما يكونش مثير. مثال: "I thought the ending was boring."
صفات إضافية (Extra adjectives):
ممكن كمان تصف الفيلم بكلمات تانية زي: great (عظيم)، amazing (مذهل)، terrible (سيئ جداً)، وbrilliant (رائع جداً).
أسئلة مفيدة (Useful questions):
لما حد يحكي عن فيلم وانت عايز تسأله أكتر، استخدم:
"What was the film about?" = الفيلم كان عن إيه؟
"Who was in it?" = مين كان الممثلين فيه؟
فعل مهم (Important verb):
recommend = أنصح بيه. لما تحب تنصح حد يفيلم معيّن. مثال: "I recommend this film — you must watch it!"
جمل نموذجية (Model sentences):
"The story was really interesting, but the ending was a bit boring."
"The film was very funny and the actors were great."
نصيحة (Tip): لاحظ إن في الإنجليزية الصفة (adjective) بتيجي قبل الاسم، يعني نقول "a scary film" مش "a film scary"، زي ما بنقول "فيلم مخيف" بالعربي. كمان لما تضيف -est للصفة بتقارن بين أكتر من حاجة، زي "the scariest film" = أخوف فيلم.
